I’m 43, my aunt fought breast cancer 17yrs ago and we thought we were clear. End of November 2018 after a routine mammogram we got a recall for her left breast. The previous cancer in 2001 was in the right breast and she had a lumpectomy. Biopsies were taken from the left breast and my aunt asked them to biopsy the right breast too as she said it hadn’t felt right in the last couple of months but the gp said there was nothing wrong. Turns out there was cancer in both breasts and a double mastectomy was booked for 6th December. Diagnosis was left breast 44mm grade 2, stage 2 ductual carcinoma, right breast was 78mm grade 2 stage 3 invasive cancer. On the right side 10 lymph nodes taken, 5 of which show cancer from level 2 and level 3. My aunt has now had a full body scan and we are awaiting the results to see if the cancer has spread, she started chemo on 17th January 2019 and will have this for the next 6months.
