Bowel cancer Stage 3

My mum in October was diagnosed with stage 2 bowel cancer. This was quickly moved to stage 3 after surgery and discovering it had spread to her lymph nodes. It was in over half the lymph nodes they removed for testing. She is now on 6 rounds of chemo with a scan in February to check everything. She has just finished round 2 of chemo. Her consultant has said it is a nasty cancer and agressive and the tumour was protruding into the blood vessels surrounding her bowel.

Is there anyone on this forum who has experienced something similar? After 3 rounds of chemo was your scan positive or did you discover it has spread to anywhere else?

Really interested to here your experiences I know everyone is different but would like to here from as many as possible.

Thanks in advance.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat JCM although I'm sorry that your mum's bowel cancer is rather aggressive and has progressed to stage 3 quite quickly.

I've had a quick look around the forum and found that [@Gaynor1234]‍‍, [@JessieD]‍, [@86Mal86]‍ and [@Rudface]‍ are all at various stages of their bowel cancer journeys so hopefully some of them will pop by soon to share their experiences with you.

I hope this helps and I wish your mum all the best with her treatment.

    Kind regards,

  • Sorry to hear you Mum has been unwell, I hope she’s coping with chemo.

My mother in law had stage 3, lots of lymph nodes infected, we were told after surgery she was almost stage 4 but not quite, her tumour was very large. She responded really well to chemo, initially her tumour markers were high during blood tests but after chemo she adapted a healthy diet and changed her whole lifestyle and she’s still cancer free after 7 years. I hope your mum has the same outcome.

    Best wishes x

  • Hello JCM :)

hope you are well in the first day of the New Year :)

I’m so sorry about your mum’s diagnose... I have been diagnosed with stage 2 bowel cancer June 2018 after emergency surgery - mine was a bit diff as there were no spreads to lymph nodes or other organs however because tumor was large - 4.5 cm x 4.5 cm I have received 4 cycles of Xelox chemo which was completed mid November - so far I have been given all clear from blood tests results and waiting for my first post chemo scan - because of the size of the cancer there was a chance something could be left behind in the blood vessels. Chemo was a nasty one and more than a month after I still have some side effects like dizzines, muscle pain and problems with my vision.

I wish your mum all the best and hope for all clear scans.

If you have any questions please pm me and will try to help :)
