my mum has cancer

ey everyone,im new to this and im also very new to ‘cancer’.so please do excuse me.

my mum has recently been diagnosed with secondry brain cancer and was straight away told it was way too advanced..

Back in july my mum went to her GP with chest pain, they sent her for a chest xray and they detected a mass. Mum was sent for further scans and to have biopsies, however it came back non-malignant! So they arranged further biopsies (differant kinds) 5 more to be exact and they all come back as non-malignant!! in between biopsies mum had a PET-scan and her adrenal glad was ‘hot’. Mum was told they feel this could be a secondry cancer so they sent her for an OP to removed both tumour and gland.

All in all from start to her OP it was almost 5 heartbreaking months! When sent off this adrenal mass came back as secondry with unkown prirmary but they strongly believed the primary was the lung.. Brilliant! we have answers, lets start treatment!

We was given a date for 2weeks timea to meet the specialist who will give us the plan! unfortunately my mum had a randon seizure during one night, she was referred for a a brain scan! The next day we was told heartbreaking news that there was cancer on the brain! we still held out hope! The next day we was told mums cancer was way to advanced and their was nothing they could do! This came as a huge huge shock considering all her biopsies came back clear! In the space of 3 weeka my mum has lost all use of her right side due to the pressure from the brain tumours.

Has a similar situation to mine ever happend to anyone else?

im totally lost for words, our world changed in the blink of an eye!

Thanks in advanced.

  • Welcome to the forum Charn although I'm really sorry about your mum's diagnosis.

I've had a quick look around the forum for you as I know you're hoping to hear from others and found that [@Mab25715]‍ and [@Quay]‍ have been in similar situations with their parents so hopefully they'll reply when they can to chat about what they've been through.

I can't begin to understand how difficult this is to take in, especially as it's all happened so quickly, but I hope the information we have on our website about secondary brain cancer can be of some help to you at this time.

If you have any further questions, do give our cancer nurses a call. They are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040 (although they will be closed on christmas eve/day, boxing day and new year's day).

    Kind regards,

  • Hi C-Kinsella,

Sorry to hear what’s happened to your mum. It’s never easy and always heartbreaking to hear such things. I can’t comment on the non-malignant biopsies as my father had Renial cancer from the outset. However his cancer did end up spreading to the brain and our doctors did operate initially but after removing his larger tumour the second smaller tumour almost doubled in a matter of weeks giving him seizures, Xmas day 2018.  They couldn’t touch this tumour as it was too close to his spinal cord. He sadly passed away in February 2019.

To to be clear - I’m no expert ! But I would keep pushing the doctors for answers and if you don’t understand what they’re saying take up their time to understand it. That’s important. We actually ended up recording the consultations to listen back to them (with permission).

    Look after your mum.

    Xx
