My younger brother had a couple of polyps removed during a sigmoidoscopy about 4 weeks ago. He saw his GP last week (Wednesday) who told him the results show he has Leukemia, which was a bolt out the blue. He was told to get a blood test in our local Boots Chemist by the weekend to find out if its treatable?. Boots was fully booked so he attended a walk-in clinic at the hospital. Nothing was heard so I phoned his GP surgery this week who said yes, they did have his results and if my brother phoned them he would be given the results. My brother did speak to them and was told the results were abnormal (?) but the local onocology dpt were aware and he would be 'fast tracked'. 'Fast tracked' can mean different time periods to different people so when nothing was heard by today I phoned the hospital who confirmed he is on their system, the consultant had seen his records and an appointment will be made for him to be seen in the next 6 to 8 weeks. Its just over a week since my brother got told about his Leukemia and as most people know, knowing nothing makes it feels a lot longer than that. I know I am so 'up in the air' at the moment but I wanted to know if this itime period is normal and correct. As a family we are usually so quiet and accepting of situations and rarely speak up to object, in fact you will find us at the back of every queue going, but I love my brother and will do anything and everything to support him.
