Keytruda treatment

Hello everybody,  I am new one here. My father was diagnosed with melanoma stage IIIC. That was pretty big shock for the whole family. He is the type who keeps family together,  we all love him so much!! I just wanted to ask,  his organs are all clear,  but he has metastases arround the scar. He has really horrible pain in this place. He has just started with first keytruda treatment. The scar with metastases is red an started to pain more and spread. He is not able to walk due to pain. I am absolutely helpless, just watch him suffer so much. It kills me inside.

1.Is that possible that metastases could react on treatment in this way ( spreading red area) ? (only 3 days after first infusion)

2.Will the pain dissapear with treatment?

3.Is here anybody who had pain and metastases in skin?  Not in organs? What can  help him with this pain?

He sais it hurts like fire.

Sorry for my English :-)

  • Hello NIKA,

A big welcome to Cancer Chat!

I am really sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis it must indeed have been such a shock for you and I am sure your dad appreciates having the support of his family at such a difficult time in his life.

It's good news that his organs are clear but it does sound like he is in a lot of pain around the scar site. I think the best thing to do is to get in touch with your father's medical team who know his condition the best and how he is responding to the treatment. So don't hesitate to contact them and ask them these questions as they will be most familiar with the treatment, its possible side effects and how your father has been responding to Keytruda. Your dad's medical team will also be in the best position to recommend the best painkillers in his particular situation and as you mention that it hurts like fire, I think it is important perhaps to make an appointment and show his doctor the scar site. We have some information on our website on Keytruda which may be of interest to you. You can read more about it here.

I hope you will also meet others here who have been diagnosed with melanoma and experienced similar pain before.

Your English is excellent by the way ;)

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
