The quickest answer is yes.

It is only natural that you and your Dad want to know what’s happening. I’d be surprised if your Oncologist doesn’t suggest it first as he/she needs to know too.

Your dad's consultant will expect to be asked questions, and this is a perfectly legitimate one to ask. I suggest you phrase it something like: "would it be appropriate to perform a (or another) scan?"

This gives the consultant the option to answer Yes and then get on with arranging the scan, or saying No and giving you the reasons why the scan isn't appropriate at this time. Either way, you'll have an answer.
