Lung cancer with brain metastasis

Hi everyone,

my nan was recently diagnosed with lung cancer that’s spread to the brain 4 tumours found there. The drs have said these tumours are inoperable so we are now waiting an appt from the chest specialist for a further test on lungs and to discuss treatment options.

I have no idea what stage we are at the moment but correct me if I’m wrong but my assumption was once it spreads to another organ it is never going to be cured.

before the diagnosis my Nan suffered a seizure which is what lead to the tests been done along with weakness to the left side of the body, up until this point the weakness has been present but she’s had two seizures alone today, we’ve not been told what to do when this happens if we should call anyone. She is on steroids for the swelling and epileptic drugs to stop the seizures.

someone please help I feel so helpless and have no idea what I need or should be found.

thank you

  • Hi there ...

It sounds really heartbraking that you seem to be left with no back up and no advice ..

Our nurses are here Monday to Friday, and their numbers on the home page .. or McMillan,  but if you write down your questions, so you don't forget anything .. I'm sure you'll get better advice ..

If I were you, I'd ring the hospital A&E  if she has more seizures and your worried ..  I wouldn't wait ... but I'm not medically trained, so I can only tell you what I'd do ...

Hope you get some good advice soon .. Chrissie x

  • Hi, I only joined this forum recently with a concern of my own and found so much support. Your post I can relate to as I lost my mum almost 5 years ago with a very similar diagnosis, but continued to spread unfortunately. She did go through chemo and also had radiotherapy on her brain. We were very well informed by the doctors at all times and they would always answer our questions to their best. Like your Nan, mum did suffer seizures, although these were better kept at Bay with the medication. Do keep a note of the seizures as this may help with adjusting medication if needs be. If we felt out of depth with a seizure there was no hesitation to call an ambulance where we knew she would be well cared for at the hospital. I understand what a difficult time this is for you and with no prior experience of seizures we all found it pretty scary at times. Do ask the questions at the next appointment or opportunity and I'm sure they can advise you. It did help us at the time.

    Best wishes xx
