Hi there even the strongest fall apart when they get news like this your not selfish at all or you wouldnt be asking for advice you didnt say how old you are ime assuming your quite young give yourself a bit of time for it to sink in .you havnt had all the results back yet so you will not know any treatment plans yet so just wait and see.if you feel yourself wobble when trying to talk about it stop and just give your mum a hug she will understand and am shure she will need many huggs cant give you much advice on that type of cancer but giving your mum plenty of cuddles is probably the best thing you can give her at the moment when the shock dies down ime shure you will be able to talk with her then .best wish paul

Please be kind to yourself.  Its such a shock when a loved one is diagnosed -not only to them but also to yourself.

I really struggled in the first 6 months as not only was my husband's life turned upside down but so was mine.

I know how hard it is to cope and the only way we could start dealing with it all was to talk openly about everything.  By 'normalising' cancer in conversation we took that inital sting out of mentioning the 'c' word.  The best you can do is to listen and hug and have lots of tissues.  

Sometime by just being normal with your mum that will help her. She will understand you are upset but you will find the strength. Its a horrible journey but once the inital shock has passed you will find just by taking your mum out for a coffee and cake-and just being there will help.

Hi, I'm sorry for your mums diagnosis. It's takes a while for it to sink in and this is actually the worst bit of the illness. All the waiting for results, it's so worrying, I have stage 4 lymphoma, on my third treatment of chemo now. I honestly think the best thing to do is read all the books they give you, grasp as much information as you can, go with your mum to the doctors, it will help you understand what is going on.  My daughter took me on a days shopping trip to get my wig just in case my hair came out (which it did) but it doesn't happens to everyone, we went for lunch, did some clothes shopping for me, tried to make me feel better. When she suggested this, it was the last thing I wanted but in the end I enjoyed my day, my wig is like a comfort blanket for me, I love it. Once I started my treatment I was more than ready for it and for me it has been good so far, my next worry is the ct scan but it's part of the journey. The support you get from doctors and nurses is terrific. Once you get over the shock things will be better. I wish you and your mum well. Take care.
