Breast cancer with fungating wounds

Hi  I have a precious sister that was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012.  She went through chemo but refused to do radiation.  She never returned to her doctor for any kind of check up.  Her cancer returned in 2017 and has spread to her lymp nodes.  The cancer is breaking through the skin on her breast. Because she has refused chemo and has decided to pursue natural remedies, we have not been able to find a doctor that will help us address the fungating wounds.  I have done some research, but have not been able to find anything conclusive.  Has anybody else out there had to deal with this?   It is so hard to stand by and watch someone you love suffer.  My heart feels for each and every one of you that have to deal with this awful disease.

  • Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry to hear about your sister and the condition she's in now.

Let me start by saying that apart from the nurses who work office hours, we're not medically qualified here.  But that said, most of us can recognise when a situation is grave. As I'm sure you already know, these wounds are very rare, and they only appear in the most advanced cancer cases.

I'm pretty certain that if your sister were to present herself at any NHS casualty department, they would offer basic first aid and then urgently refer her to an oncology department where her would be treated using the best available conventional therapy.  However, I guess your sister is looking for a "natural" healer who will treat her wounds, but I fear that is going to be impossible, because this will be well beyond the experience of most of them, and far far past anything that natural therapies can address.  I use complementary therapies myself, and all the therapists I use know where to draw the line between complementary therapy and conventional therapy.

If you have any influence on your sister at all, then I think you need to persuade her to return to her GP. Don't spend any time searching for an alternative therapist who will be unable to help her anyway.

Once again, you have my sincere sympathies.

  • I'm not a medic, but know that your sister must accept what the doctor recommends. And you must try to persuade her to accept medical advice. Fungating cancer is already extremely difficult to treat, and it is one of the most unpleasant forms of cancer. Good luck. Harry

  • Hi there. I am a firm believer in natural remedies but cancer is something that needs to be treated correctly. I have undergone surgery and treatment but I also am seeking natural remedies to compliment my symptoms. I would have felt I was taking a risk with my health if I hadn't had treatment.

If it isn't treated then cancer can spread and grow rapidly depending on the cancer and various other things. We're not here to give medical advice but all I know is that mine got detected early and is being treated. Any discomfort or other symptoms I've dealt with using natural remedies. There are places like breast cancer haven that help with massage, mindfulness, etc.

Help your sister by not wasting any more of her time and get her seen by cancer specialists before it's too late. Research has advanced treatments so much that there is a better outcome with symptoms. She must be suffering alot so help her please.

  • Hi... have one myself and apply a pack over it of Manuka honey, CBD oil, castor oil. The inflammation definately reduces overnight. Understand your sisters hesitance.. have it myself... hard to explain it to people... mainly find it hard to put faith or trust the doctors advice due to a 2nd opinion in another country - where the science if 2 countries have different approaches? (NHS mastec/chemo/rads/tamoxafin and 2nd opinion chemo, reduce lump and lumpectomy). I hope your sister is ok.
