My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 Oesophageal cancer in April last year. They talked of a stent, but started chemo before op date came up. He wasn't able to eat, but I purchased a food blender, and was cooking meat and vegetables and liquidising down with lots of gravy. He was also prescribed Fortisip by the dietitian. He was drinking lucozade, although letting it go flat before drinking. He kept his weight up. And had 6 cycles of chemo ECF. And then a 4 week break followed by 5 weeks of Radiotherapy, along side another 5 weeks of chemo. He had a scan a month ago and the tumour is no longer there. Just the scar tissue where it was zapped. He never did have the stent fitted. As after two cycles of chemo he was able to eat again. Good luck to him x

SusanGM's suggestion of using a blender is a good one - I'd have been lost without ours.

I hope the hospital visit goes well on Monday and they can make him more comfortable and able to start eating again.

Thanks for your reply Dave.We are just so worried becausecof the weight he has lost and the lack of interest in food.We dont know wether when they sort the stent out if we can encourage him into trying little bits of food other than soup.Thankyou once again Karen

That must be so difficult. I switched to full fat milk when I was on chemo and ate chocolate and sponge cake when that was all I could keep down apart from soup and smoothies. Little and often was the advice I received from the Oncology team. So I was constantly grazing when I wasn't asleep. 

Mum has been putting some build up shot drink in his soup and has been using cream and full fat milk.He is drinking alot but says that this gunk which we have named it is stopping him eating.Hopefully monday we will have more answers.Thankyou Karen

Have you tried fortifying his milk by using dried milk added to full fat milk?  Adds more calories to it. But tastes no different x Susan x

Also with the fortisip, although my husband has a sweet tooth, they tended to be too sickly after awhile. So we added milk and ice cream to make a milkshake. 

A lot more palatable. Xx
