Partner was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer

my partner was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer today. It's took nearly a month to get to this stage. We have a appointment Tuesday with a dr about his chemotherapy. My partner is 46 years of age & we have 3 children. Everything just hasn't sunk in yet. When you hear those words, it's knocked me for six. They tell you then you go home & cry well I did. I've been with this man for 20 years plus & I don't know what to say to him. All I keep thinking is will the chemo work ? Will it shrink it ? I look at him and see how much weight he's lost & I can feel myself filling up. I just don't know what to say, what to write, or what to do.

  • Hi All,

I am also stage 4 lung cancer and we take each day at a time and enjoy the moment.  I have been advised to take counselling called 'mindfulness' which teaches you to live in the now.  There is a waiting list but I am having reflexology whilst waiting which is nice and relaxing.  Your local hospice can usually help with this.  I just called in one day and they were very helpful.

  • thanks for the comment pollyalison- i am going to get both Daryl and myself into the Penny Brohen center to try mindfulness or another type of therapy - and i think that reflexology would be good for my lovely husband as well - we are enjoying the moment as well and i am sure this is helping us both - take care and much strength to you x
