First off, I am not a physician or medical practitioner, but I can relate my experience with my dad who passed on July 6 this year. As an alternative to morphine, the hospital gave him diladaud. Its stronger than oxycodene and put my dad out of misery about 24 hrs before he died. This is an opiate, however, like morphine, so you really need to consult a doctor. Our McMillan nurse has arranged for the Palliative care Consultant to visit at home this week they will go through options for different pain relief. I'm sure all health authorities will have someone available to give qualified advise..Hubby is not responding well to Oramorph for breakthrough pain he also has a 125 fentanyl patch we have been told that he has only scratched the surface of pain relief available ..talk to Mcmillan and ask for pain specialist to help decide which medication is best suited for your Mom hope you get sorted it is awful seeing our loved ones in pain x we also found that ibruleve gel seems to help hubby's cancer is oesophagus.bowel with metatasis in spine I just gently massage some also do not understimate how good a pain killer paracetamol can be you really do need to talk to doctor/specialist before trying anything from over the counter though as with other meds/complications from cancer there can be even more unwanted side-effects good luck stay strong x
