Mixed up feelings about diagnoses

My mum was diagnosed with lung cancer 8 weeks ago along with sadly a tumour on the base of her spine for which she has had radiotherpy for, we understand the implications of a secondly cancer diagnoses but unfortunately mum was in so much pain when she was introduced to the 'C' word that I don't  think she took it all in board. thankfully she was admitted to the palliative care ward where the pain has been kept under control and she's more like her old self now she's back home. With district and Macmillan nurses coming in a few times a week she's now wondering if they are watching for her to deteriorate or just keeping an eye on her pain relief ? Myself as her daugher am feeling the same way. She has good days & bad days she's shakey with a very dry mouth (or is that the medication) bad sweats. She has decided that she wishes no further treatment so a fully diagnoses can't be reached with only a PET scan done/CT scan

To many questions whizzing around my head today and hers. We ll speak with the nurses this week when they call but everytime I leave mum I wonder if she's going to be here tomorrow, daft as it sounds. This is our first experience with the 'c' word and a diagnoses like this

  • Hi Harveyc

You need to talk to the nurses especially the Mcmillan nurse as she will be part of your Mums team.

The Dry Mouth could be if she is on Morphine (my dad sufferd from this) try small sips of water or rubbing her lips with an ice cube ,not straight from the freeezer as that could burn them.

The other advice is to write your questions down no matter how trivial or silly this way you wont have to keep them in your head and wont forget anything.
