CT Scan Colon Cancer

My dad had a CT scan done on Sunday regarding the (suspected?) cancer that they found when doing a colonoscopy the previous Sunday.  They have said it takes 2-3 weeks for the results to come through.  Dad also had a biopsy done a fortnight ago.

Why does a CT scan take so long to get results from, as all that time cancer could be spreading to other areas of the body if it hasn't done so already?  Is it just that there are insufficient radiographers to decipher the images?

  • Hi Lorraine

Dad had his operation and went to the hospital yesterday for a follow-up appointment.  The tumour was bigger than expected and had travelled to 4 lymph nodes, which they cut out.  In a few weeks time he will have chemotherapy in case any cells have gone elsewhere :(

  • Hi Debbie, thanks for the update on your dad. Sorry the tumor is bigger than originally thought and that four lymph nodes had cells. Having the chemo treatments will hopefully take care of any spread if it occurred. I hope he gets along better now that the operation has been done and the plan is in place for treatment. You must be somewhat relieved to have this much done and over with and hopefully he get on okay with the treatment.

Come back on here as time goes on to let us know how he gets along and to get support for yourself as you go through this with your Dad. He is fortunate to have you looking out for him. You take care and hoping all the best for your Dad.

  • Thanks Lorraine.  It's good to get things off your chest.

  • Hi so sorry to here that glad you are getting treated quickly, I recently had a small polyp removed and now need a CT scan do you know why I need a scan it was only small . Was your case similar did you need scan following biopsy. It's so frustrating when you don't really understand things. I hope you get treated well I had breast cancer when I was 40 so understand how your feeling it's not very nice but they have amazing treatments now and if you need chemotherapy it's not more tolerable now and they have lots of remedies for any symptoms you may get. I wish you all the best with your treatments.
