Anger

Hi , my mum is about to have her fourth round of chemo tomorrow and the last few weeks I've been really angry almost as if it is only now that it has hit me.  I am losing my temper so easily and have become really snappy with people . Any advice on what to do

thanks

  • Hi Lisa I feel exactly the same way. I think we are angry cos we don't know why it happens to the people we love. I've been so snappy and stressy at work and with my friends I can't help it I just apologise and hope they will understand. Maybe try the gym or running? Or some breathing exercises like resting in for 4 hold for 7 breathe out for 8 really calms me down xx

  • I've just taken up boxing training hoping that will help but my temper always seems to be bubbling under the surface . I get a taxi with my mum to Weston park hospital and can easily get frustrated with taxi drivers asking questions , I sit and huff and puff thinking for Pete's sake will you shut up , I don't know you . They are just trying to be nice but I get really wound up. Mind u yesterday one taxi driver said which one has cancer ! The. Proceeded to ask what type xxx

Hi Lisa ..... I am sorry to hear of Mum's diagnosis and hope she is coping well with the treatment.  As has been said, anger is natural but in my opinion yours seems to be a little misguided towards others who are no doubt genuinely empathising with what you and your family are going through. Be aware that they may also be going through a similar thing or have lost someone they love to the disease.

It is cancer you should be angry with, not other people!  I too have had many conversations with taxi drivers taking me to the 'cancer hospital' - I have had offers from them to pre-book free journeys, advice on treatment side-effects and one lovely guy even gave me his number and offered to pick me up from the train station and take me 5miles every three weeks free of charge because he didnt think I should be getting on and off The Tube!  Try not to think the worse of people - most genuinely care.

I understand where you are coming from to some degree because I too have every right to feel angry.  I have a terminal prognosis and face leaving those I love dearly within months. I am in constant pain, have been on chemo over 3yrs, have difficulty eating, can no longer drive, am skint because I can no longer work and nor can my partner as he now has to care for me. I could go on - but what the heck is the point and why is it anyone elses fault who may feel they want to offer a kind word?

Next time you feel a wobbly coming on - open your arms and sing the song from Frozen 'Let it Go' at the top of your voice.  It works wonders and will certainly silence the poor taxi drivers lol!!!!  All the best to you and your Mum x

  • You're right it is cancer I should be angry at xxx

  • It was a short reply as I a, practicing singing let it go xx. Lol , thanks for the smiles

  •

HAHA ....... I can hear you from here Lisa !  Take care sweetheart x

  • Grrrrrrrr - just hearing "Let it Go" with its saccharine-sweet, Disney-effected, sentimentality makes me so angry! :-)

Seriously, whatever gets you through this situation is good.

Anger is a natural reaction, you just need to be careful that you direct it appropriately and constructively. The words of the old song "You Always Hurt the Ones You Love" ring so true. It is so easy to lash out verbally at the nearest person, forgetting that they are going through hell too. I'm pretty sure we've all done this at one time or another and then regretted the outburst.

At times like these you discover who your real friends are and who turned out to be only there for the beer and the good times. Some people are genuinely unsure what to say for the best, so end up saying nothing. Others are simply a waste of space, and probably always were, but you've only just seen them in their true light as they turn away and look for someone more fun to be with.

If you're lucky, you make new friends along the way for whom you having cancer is the norm and not an issue to be avoided.

    Rant over :-)

    Dave

Dave - how could you? Disney sentimentality!  You will be telling me next that the characters arent real lol !

Like I said to Rocker on the 'Capecitabine' thread - some friends do disappoint thats for sure, but I think the majority are in it for the duration.  I hope you can talk to your mates Rocker and explain how you feel - if things dont change then at least you will know - and you have given them an opening which they have chosen to decline.

All the best to all - x

  • of course the Disney characters are real. Pluto is there all the time....lol.

I hvae chatted to a few friends and they say I am in the south part of the city and they are in the north which is too far...yeah right.

I admit people are showing up that I never expected so the cancer has opened my eyes about people.....and that wonderful Udderly Smooth product

  • Hi Rocker .... thank goodness you believe too! Dave doesnt realise what he is missing - nothing like a bit of Disney lol!!

I am glad some of your friends are being supportive.  I truly think the majority want to help but just dont know what to do and need us to tell them what we need.  Sometimes we expect people to know what we are thinking and if you think about it, it really isnt easy for our mates is it? - they dont want to be overpowering and on the other hand dont want to seem uninterested. I have no problem with asking people to bring a bit of home-cooking over when I am feeling too poorly to cook - you should try it haha!!!!!

Are you going to get some Udderly??? It may open a whole new world for you!  Seriously it really does work. How is your rash doing?   And how are your feet?  Do hope you are feeling a little better and that the lower dose will be better for you.  Stick with it! x

  • wish I had a mate.....like I did in 1987.....been a long time.

Yes, I got some Udderly Smooth and everything feels baby soft noow.....no rash and feet are a little better

The lower dose so far seems to be better. The fatigue is the big thing so I have to learn to adapt...although staying up until 1AM watching Mission Impposible does not help

If you get extra food then send it over. Everyone says I am a good cook and noone brings over food...I am not losing weight so I guess my cooking and eating of food is still with me...lol

Gosh 1987 - it has been a long while for you.

I am glad you are feeling a little better on the Crappecitabine now - it sometimes takes a few tweeks to get the dosage right on these chemo drugs.  Fatique is a problem on them all and you just have to listen to your body and have a snooze when needed.  An afternoon nap is a good idea.  I tend to sit up late too - but am really trying to sort myself out on that score as my sleep pattern has really got out of hand.

Wish I was a good cook lol!  I am rubbish and however hard I try to follow a recipe, there are very few meals turn out well.  Chilli is about the only thing that turns out yummy and I have no idea why to be honest.  Suggest to a few of your friends that you do a 'come dine with me' evening every week - then you will get some meals at their houses haha!  Have a good week. x
