Chemo and radiotheraphy

Hi I have only found out in the last couple of months that my dad has bowel cancer they have been looking into it and found cancer on the lung they want to start chemo once a week and radiotheraphy every day for five days does anyone know how this affects someone please I have stayed strong until now but not sure I can see him in pain or strugling as an ex army man and always been so strong thank you

  • Hi Nat,  I have started the 5 wk radiation & chemo tabs, the radiation  is pain free , I'm only on day four, I got a infection in my bladder , dosent happen to every 1, my tumor is very low down the rectum though, i went to my gp on friday & he put me on antibiotics , apparently radiation cystitis :p  chemo tabs give me restless leg syndrome all wk/end , I'm going to ask about that today , I was a bit queesy in the mornings but they give u sickness tablets to help with this , (they work). Over all its not bad , iv just been unlucky & took a few of the reactions,  if ur dad brings a paper or something to read while waiting , they ask u to come 1/2 an hr b4 ur appointment to drink some water , u need to go in radio with a full bladder, & if he wears elastic trousers it helps a bit as u don't have to strip off every time , .Hope this helps a bit

  • Hi, I've just finished cycle one of chemo. The treatment itself is fine and I didn't have any pain or discomfort just boredom! Post chemo, a wee bit tired but anti sickness tabs work well and getting on with life till the next cycle. Can't comment on radio yet. Hope your dad gets on ok

  • ..In my mom situation ,She undergo radiation and once a week chemotheraphy . Today the effect of chemotheraphy for her is really bad.
