How to help a young relationship survive cancer?

Hi All,

I'm just wondering if any of you had any advice for maintaining / growing a relationship when one of you have been diagnosed with cancer? It's early days for us - we're about six months in - and we're waiting to hear on what stage he's at at the moment but it looks like it's a serious one. I'm likely to be a key caregiver, as his parents don't live in the same city, and I wonder whether acting as a nurse all the time might mean that when he's okay (fingers crossed) we'll find it difficult to get back to 'normal' and the lovely, fledgling but I-hoped-long-term relationship we had before then.

Or is that a selfish and silly question to ask? Has anyone got any hopeful stories of where cancer has bought them closer together with their partner? I guess we were still in the getting to know you stage a little....can we carry on doing that in a way which is healthy, and positive, despite such huge stress and worry?

Thank you!

Im sorry  Im not able to answer your question. I couldnt just read it and run when I noticed you hadnt had any replies. I hope somebody will be along soon who can answer your question or at least point you in the direction of somewhere where you might find answers and help. My own relationship is over 34 years old and we are waiting for tests after an xray showed a shadow on my husbands right lung.

    Wishing you both well.
