Sorry to read about your dear mother. I can tell you, it's quite normal to feel helpless; I know I did when my mother was siffering from breast cancer. To see soneone we love, suffering and not being able to do anything to help except to hold their hands and support them as much as possible make us feel bad. For when we were young, our motherS looked after us and made us better when we were ill and now the roles are reversed and we find there is nothing we can do to stop cancer in its track, it makes us feel like this. It is even worse when we are trying to carry on at work for we have trouble concentrating.

Hello there - thank you so much for taking the time to reply that is so kind of you- I am struggling with work today but need to keep focused as I suspect it will get a lot worse than this in the coming months - it certainly helps to know someone understands what I am trying to cope with - so I thank you for making me feel a little calmer this morning x

Hi, Nala, When I was giving birth to one of my children and was in a lot of pain, I remember my husband saying that watching someone you love suffering is worse than being the actual patient.  I was angry at the time and couldn't understand.  A few years later he was in intensive care for 10 weeks before dying and then I fully understood what he meant.  Just sitting there, knowing he was so ill but being unable to do anything was worse than any pain I have ever had.

You are doing your best for your mum and I am sure she knows this and is grateful for all you do.  Can I wish you all the best and hope that you mum gets some pain relief.  Thinking of you both.
