Continuing the journey

Hi All

Decided to drop the 'month' from the title of this thread as time moves so quickly and the date becomes irrevelant so quickly.

Hubby and I both feeling pretty drained today but not because of his illness. However it is something that has made both us further stressed and 'outside our control'.  Prepare yourselves for a rant or look away now.

Having put in a long work day yesterday (both of us). I switched on my mobile on leaving work to find a message from the social worker for Mum (regular readers of my thread will know what we have been going through recently).  The upshott of this message was that the Social Services panel have decided that they can offer Mum a place at a sheltered housing complex but not the most local one. The call was to advise me of the panel's decision and to tell me that a visit will be arranged this week, preferably by Wednesday, for Mum to be taken to visit the flat and be told about the package of care and how it will work. They require a decision from Mrs K (this is how my mother is addressed in the follow up e-mail!!) by Friday otherwise the placement will be offered to another service provider!  Unfortunately this means Mum has little choice but to move further away (closest sheltered housing has no vacancy and they are  not willing to help fund where she has spent the last 9 months 'settling in').  The guilt I feel at being unable to cope with this is overwhelming, my hubby is very supportive and angry in equal parts and I am dreading the days ahead.  I am unable to take leave and my negative feelings towards her social worker would not work in Mum's favour as she needs to go on the visit with an open mind and the care home staff state she is quite able to make her own mind up.  If she agrees I will be unable to visit as regularly (my problem not theirs of course) but apparently the social worker will accompany her and I have asked to be kept informed.

Even typing this is making me sad/angry/frustrated and emotionally/physically drained.  I was due to visit Mum today but this is on hold until I have spoken to the care home this morning. Hubby says I should leave it till later in the week when we know what is going on and I suspect he is right (bearing in mind my physical upset involves many 'loo' visits (enough said!!)).

Sorry for all the negativity but just needed to get it out and try and get  myself together before I start on the phone calls.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Regards Julesxx

  • Hi Jules, Just wanted to say a personal hello on your thread! Sorry to read about your hubby's coccyx problem. I hope an evening out with his pal in the pub, takes his mind off his discomfort for an hour or two (maybe a sneaky snifter would help too! ;) ) Enjoy the bingo tonight, fingers crossed for a full house! And enjoy the Artisan market over the weekend. I see on Kathy's thread, she's a bit of a 'cheese-ophile' just like me! Would far rather a chunk of cheddar to a chunk of chocolate! (My friends don't quite get it! Haha) So Zack is now getting upstairs! Wow! Doesn't seem 5 minutes since he was just starting to crawl! It seems you've been experiencing lots of water problems over the past few days. what with cracked cisterns and heavenly downpours, you've certainly had your fair share of H2O! I hope you a great, dry weekend - go easy on the cheeses! Much love, Jo xx
  • Hi Brian, just wanted to wish you a happy and successful exhibition tomorrow! Looking forward to seeing the pictures! Love and hugs to you and Mrs B, Jo xx
  • Hi Jo,

Thank for your kinds thoughs regarding our exhibition. I always look forward to meeting friends and visitors and always have a lot of fun. Our members are a great bunch and the quality and variety of work always amazes me. We have an elderly lady who has carve a spanish lady with all the crinolin frills and she has carved them so delicately.  I will post photos on her i promise.

Take care of yourself Jo and have a relaxing weekend, hugs, Brian.

  • Hi Jules,

Sorry I haven't been on much in the last few days. Darling Ava left me a few microbes to develop for myself. So I have had a nasty headcold which is now beginning to settle on my chest.!!!! Mind you the way she was sharing her cold was to give me very wide open mouthed kisses, so I am not really complaining. She was delightful over the weekend especially with Chessie our dog. They were actually wonderful together and very gentle with each other. Anyway I spent the whole of Wednesday in bed after a terrific sore throat the night before. Just gargled with mouthwash every moment I could. Thursday I had to go across to see the parents and tried not to give it to them. Today has been cleaning and shopping this afternoon. Like you the weather here has been pretty wet and windy but we have had it good this year for a long time. Zack climbing stairs will be fun and keep your daughter fit.

had a bit of a non raining walk with chessie this afternoon after we had been into town. Just have to do it when I can. Hope you are coping okay Jules and have a great night out tonight.

    Hugs for now,

    Annabel.xx

  • Hi Brian,

Hope you have a great day tomorrow.

Do wish I could come and see it all. Maybe I should send my Aunt around or my Mother in law to see all your groups wares. Both live nearby I believe. will look forward to seeing some pictures instead.

    Best

    Annabel. xx

  • Hi Brian

Hope you had a good turnout for the craft fair and am sure all your recent efforts were well received.  No doubt you now need a couple of days with your feet up to recover.  Hope your neighbour will also be feeling a little brighter and she is lucky to have attentive friends keeping an eye open for her (and keeping her smiling).

Nice surprise for me today as I was at the supermarket got a call from my daughter seeing if she could pop in with the children so she detoured and me and my trolley load of shopping got a lift home. Zack now has two bottom teeth and was speed crawling round our lounge before lunch and nap.  Took the time to play games with eldest grandson whilst little one was tucked up and it was lovely having social conversation with our daughter.  Hubby did manage a little time awake but sleeps through all the chit chat so will fill him in later.  Also took a call from sister in laws and move to the Isle of Man seems close as contracts now signed on property they are buying.  Will no doubt hear about it next weekend when she pops over.

Fingers crossed that nurse/consultant appointments this week will go okay and hopefully his sore back will soon respond to treatment; protective dressing still in place though hubby is thinking of calling them back in tomorrow if needs be.

Wishing you and Mrs B a peaceful and relaxing day tomorrow.  All the best  Jules x

  • Hi Annabel

Lovely to hear that Ava is so loving that she gifted you a few cold germs. Hope you are feeling much better now though not sure all that clearning is good for you!!

Our daughter visited this morning and little Zack has sprouted two teeth since we last saw them!  Eldest grandson who will be 6 in two weeks time had done so well at school that I had bought a little surprise gift (lego fireman/bike to build).  Took him all of 5 minutes but was delighted with it. Whilst Zack had his nap we played board games and did a jigsaw before they left to meet our son in law (he had been at work) and then it was off to a friends for a birthday party.

Hubby managed a little time awake whilst they were here but this extra 'pain in the bum' has made him miserable and sleeping seems to be the answer at present. Hoping for a good chat with nurse on Monday and then we see palliative consultant on Tuesday for planned check up.(so usual anxiety build up at present).

Look after yourself. Hugs  Jules x

  • Hi Jo

Nice to see you finding your feet on the new format and thanks for posting on my thread.  Enjoyed our nights out last night though no win at the bingo, the glass of wine afterwards and time to chat always a welcome diversion.  Hubby made it to the pub but is definitely struggling with the coccyx pain (difficult when you sit most of the time to actually achieve any relief).  He does not drink alcohol now as says it lessons the benefits of the morphine  (consultant has said the odd drink wont  hurt him though so hope he will maybe have one over the Christmas period). He managed a small time awake this morning whilst our daugher and her boys popped in and their company always brings a smile.  We are, of course, having to explain to the elder grandson why grandad sleeps/dreams a lot but seems to be taking it okay at present.

Hope each day further on from your op i finding you more comfortable and making the most of the tlc - bet the dog is enjoying the 'leftovers' .    Will chat again soon but am off to make a cuppa now. Look after yourself and sending hugs. Jules x

  • Hi Brian, Hope your show went well and you are not too exhausted. Your neighbour is fortunate to have you so close by to offer her your ear and cheer her up. (That sounds bad, as though you offered her your ear to nibble on)' must be some connotation with squirrels and nuts. Have seen some of your works previously, wow they are great. I am not at all crafty or arty, can't even draw curtains!! Anyway hope you and Mrs B are well, Kathy xx
  • Hi Jules, Jo, Annabel, and Cathy,

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. I had all this written out once and suddenly my laptop shut down and I lost the lot. I had the best craft fair ever yesterday and we had a lot of great comments like the elderly lady who told me coming to visit our show is the highlight of the year for her. Will attach some photos at the end od this post (Hope you dond mind Jules)

Jules, sorry to hear you had a restless night. I hope you enjoyed your visit to the atrisan market and managed it in the dry. I hope hubby has had a comfortable pain free day. It was nice you had a visit from your daughter and grandchildren yesterday.

Will right more tommorow. Take care everyone, Brian.
