Continuing the journey

Hi All

Decided to drop the 'month' from the title of this thread as time moves so quickly and the date becomes irrevelant so quickly.

Hubby and I both feeling pretty drained today but not because of his illness. However it is something that has made both us further stressed and 'outside our control'.  Prepare yourselves for a rant or look away now.

Having put in a long work day yesterday (both of us). I switched on my mobile on leaving work to find a message from the social worker for Mum (regular readers of my thread will know what we have been going through recently).  The upshott of this message was that the Social Services panel have decided that they can offer Mum a place at a sheltered housing complex but not the most local one. The call was to advise me of the panel's decision and to tell me that a visit will be arranged this week, preferably by Wednesday, for Mum to be taken to visit the flat and be told about the package of care and how it will work. They require a decision from Mrs K (this is how my mother is addressed in the follow up e-mail!!) by Friday otherwise the placement will be offered to another service provider!  Unfortunately this means Mum has little choice but to move further away (closest sheltered housing has no vacancy and they are  not willing to help fund where she has spent the last 9 months 'settling in').  The guilt I feel at being unable to cope with this is overwhelming, my hubby is very supportive and angry in equal parts and I am dreading the days ahead.  I am unable to take leave and my negative feelings towards her social worker would not work in Mum's favour as she needs to go on the visit with an open mind and the care home staff state she is quite able to make her own mind up.  If she agrees I will be unable to visit as regularly (my problem not theirs of course) but apparently the social worker will accompany her and I have asked to be kept informed.

Even typing this is making me sad/angry/frustrated and emotionally/physically drained.  I was due to visit Mum today but this is on hold until I have spoken to the care home this morning. Hubby says I should leave it till later in the week when we know what is going on and I suspect he is right (bearing in mind my physical upset involves many 'loo' visits (enough said!!)).

Sorry for all the negativity but just needed to get it out and try and get  myself together before I start on the phone calls.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Regards Julesxx

  • Hi Jules

Put some washing out early this morning and it was somewhat cold to say the least.  Thankfully rather better now.  Hubby has been cutting and weeding the lawn and left me to watch the London Marathon.  He did suggest I might like to enter.  Possibly in a couple of years when I am full recovered although I have to say I doubt it.

I do have another idea to raise funds for Cancer Research as a thank you to all on this site who have helped me but more of that once I have done some more work on it.   Have to get a move on though as I should get back to the day jon early in June.

Hope hubby does enjoy the fishing later in the week.

    Best wishes.

    Gill

  • Morning Gill,

Yep I had early start in the garden (with bodywarmer!!) - first time in ages I have not watched the London Marathon. When hubby surfaced at 10.30 I got his breakfast and then returned  outside to finish weeding a flower border and then spent three hours sitting reading in the sunshine (lunch outside too!).  Annoyingly I now have tan-line half way down my arms - wont that look great when I finally put on summer tops!!! (back of my neck also browner than my front).  Hubby spent the day as usual, in front of tv and dozing on and off.  He has increased his pain relief a little lately and has never been one to sit outdoors so nothing new in us being in different places - garden has nearly always been down to me (he did go through a growing veggies phase when the children were little but with travelling abroad for business over so many years it was not consistent and he lost interest).  His 'downtime from work' was usually the tv and sea fishing.  As he cannot do the latter now our son is hoping to take him freshwater fishing (weather permitting this week sometime).  We are also going to our sons (along with daughter and family) on Easter Sunday so a good family day to look forward to.

Hope you enjoyed the rest of your day and continue to take it easy as before you know it you will be back in work mode.  Chat again soon.  Hugs  from Jules xx

  • Good afternoon Jules,

Glad you were able to spend some time in your garden reading yesterday. Our rotary washing line broke this morning but Brian (alias Mr Fixit) was able to repair it so Mrs B was able to put the washing out in the sunshine. Am working on a story for my granddaughter; she wanted one about ancient Egypt. I had started it some weeks ago then came to a stand still with it but have now come up with a completely new begining which starts at the present time and where an archeologist finds something in a newly discovered slave galley in a dried out river course and the story then goes back in time. Another one I am working on has part of the story around East Midlands Airport and I was able to use Google Earth to research the area. I am amazed how much information I am able to access when researching story's via my laptop.

I hope your usual visit to see your mother goes well tomorow. Brother in law has to visit the vampires den at the hospital and have several blood test done and then on Wednesday he is scheduled to have an operation to put a steel rod in his hip. Rather him than me.

Take care Jules and I hope you nad hubby have a stress free week, Hugs to all, Brian.

  • Hi Brian

Lovely to hear your ideas for books (even if the idea came from the grandchildren).  I have no doubt your grandchildren sing your praises to their friends as I am sure there are very few people who can write stories almost to order.

With regard to Google Earth it can be quite scary the amount of information you can get without getting out and about.  Great in many ways as it is cheaper and easier than actually visiting places when you can often miss things.

Hope you have a good day.

    Gill

  • Hi Brian

Love the ideas for your granddaughters book. Great to be able to respond to their ideas in such a positive way.  My current read is set over two time periods, ancient and Second World War so having to keep my wits about me to follow the storylines within.  The author Kate Mosse (not the  model) and have got hooked since reading her first novel.  Also gives me a break from my usual crime reads.

Have had an energetic morning (walked over 3 miles) and not much change regarding Mum but its the least I can do to keep visiting as no one else goes very often (she tells everyone to go away so no wonder really).  Told her I would be down at the weekend to celebrate Easter with her but unsurprisingly she was not interested and said no to bring anything as she will give it to the staff (I know she did this with her Christmas goodies!!).  Think it will be a safer bet to buy flowers to cheer her room up.  Also  checked on our daughter's  place and refreshed her pet's food (1 lettuce!!).  'Gary' the giant land snail will hopefully appreciate it.

Well we must add Mr Fixit to your list of nicknames.  Hope by now your 'nut' cupboard has been restocked as a reward.  Hope you and Mrs B have a good day and that her brother's operation goes well and he is soon feeling more comfortable (am sure this will take a bit of time though).

Right am off to make lunch to take outside whilst the sun shines and the birds are singing.  Hugs from Jules x

  • Hi Jules,

Hi Brian, Jo, Gill , George and anyone else.

Just want to wish you all a lovely sunny and Happy Easter wherever you are.

May the sunshine on you and things bring big smiles to you.

I shall probably be busy Friday and Monday and then busy packing my bags to go to London and play Nannna.

It' s a long way to child mind but I am honoured to be asked.

Like you Jules all those catch up jobs in the garden have been keeping me busy  the last few days but its wonderful to see the improvement and things that are flowering and others that are coming through.I am always very tired afterwards but generally satisfied. Have a lovely time with your family Jules and hope husband enjoys it as well.

    Hugs

    Annabel. xx

  • Good afternoon Jules,

Have had another e-mail from my sister in Canada and dad is still in hospital and is still not much improved. Hope "Gary" appreciates his lettuce. I was going to go out into my garage to do some woodturning but for some reason an old knee injury of mine has been giving me grief today and have had difficulty walking so have concentrated on my story today.

You were right about my nut cupboard being re-stocked, you know me too well Jules.

Hope the family are well, Take care best wishe to you all, Brian.

  • Hi All .Just a line to say have a good easter and stay of the chocs.Still having to wait for results from a blood test then a further scan in about 14 days time but they are looking after me thank god .

    Regards to all george

  • Thanks Annabel

You and I are doing our babysitting bit then!!  I have baby Zack overnight for the first time (so different from our first grandson when we used to help out more often - times change!!) after I finish work on Monday.  Then shall have him on Tuesday for the day.  Mind you I do not have to travel which is a bonus.  I know you will enjoy yourself with Ava.  Weather permitting we will be off to the park as he loves the swings!!  Wishing you and the family a lovely Easter weekend and look forward to hearing all about Ava on your return.  Have fun.  Jules x

  • Hi Brian

Sorry to hear that your leg has been playing up and hope it will be feeling better today after some 'resting up'.  Wish you were getting better news of your Dad though he is in the right place at present where he can be kept well monitored and treated.  Always difficult when you are so far away so good that your sister can update you and e-mail comes into its own with time differences.

I spent a good few hours (with my feet  up) in the garden enjoying my reading in the lovely sunshine (now have a pink nose and its not down to drink).  Finished the back garden 'weedathon' and will have to concentrate on the front garden next.  Its just a shame that hubby has never enjoyed just sitting outside so he remained glued to the tv as usual.  He is just waiting to hear from our son as to when they may book a place at the fishing lake and he has also been invited to see round son's workplace (he works for a researcher in metals (simplified description) at Brunel towards the end of May (guided tour with 'the main man'.  As hubby worked in engineering metals for industry this could be something of interest for him.

Take care of yourself and get that leg checked out if not feeling right in a few days. In the meantime keep up the 'nut pampering'.  Jules xx
