Continuing the journey

Hi All

Decided to drop the 'month' from the title of this thread as time moves so quickly and the date becomes irrevelant so quickly.

Hubby and I both feeling pretty drained today but not because of his illness. However it is something that has made both us further stressed and 'outside our control'.  Prepare yourselves for a rant or look away now.

Having put in a long work day yesterday (both of us). I switched on my mobile on leaving work to find a message from the social worker for Mum (regular readers of my thread will know what we have been going through recently).  The upshott of this message was that the Social Services panel have decided that they can offer Mum a place at a sheltered housing complex but not the most local one. The call was to advise me of the panel's decision and to tell me that a visit will be arranged this week, preferably by Wednesday, for Mum to be taken to visit the flat and be told about the package of care and how it will work. They require a decision from Mrs K (this is how my mother is addressed in the follow up e-mail!!) by Friday otherwise the placement will be offered to another service provider!  Unfortunately this means Mum has little choice but to move further away (closest sheltered housing has no vacancy and they are  not willing to help fund where she has spent the last 9 months 'settling in').  The guilt I feel at being unable to cope with this is overwhelming, my hubby is very supportive and angry in equal parts and I am dreading the days ahead.  I am unable to take leave and my negative feelings towards her social worker would not work in Mum's favour as she needs to go on the visit with an open mind and the care home staff state she is quite able to make her own mind up.  If she agrees I will be unable to visit as regularly (my problem not theirs of course) but apparently the social worker will accompany her and I have asked to be kept informed.

Even typing this is making me sad/angry/frustrated and emotionally/physically drained.  I was due to visit Mum today but this is on hold until I have spoken to the care home this morning. Hubby says I should leave it till later in the week when we know what is going on and I suspect he is right (bearing in mind my physical upset involves many 'loo' visits (enough said!!)).

Sorry for all the negativity but just needed to get it out and try and get  myself together before I start on the phone calls.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Regards Julesxx

  • Morning George

Had just returned from walking 2miles to do my supermarket shop (being a 'trolley dolly' as hubby still sleeping and has not really felt up to doing a lot this week) and was delighted to read your latest update.  Must have been a big weight off your mind to have your good results in.  Enjoy the weekend in your beautiful garden (I see garden wars are alive and well between Brian and yourself - battle of the tulips).  I have a dozen bright red tulips which are now fully out and having spent  time yesterday in the garden (playing swingball with our grandson) and bouncing the baby up and down (not at the same time I might add!!) today I am planning a bit of tidying and mowing and then a sit down.

Hope your GP appointment is just as enjoyable. Best wishes to you and the family for the weekend.  Jules xx

  • Morning Brian

Loving the photos that are brightening my thread and I see 'battle of the gardens'has commenced with yourself and George.

Glad you had a good Wood Club meeting and you can feel your enthusiasm for everthing woody (including nuts from the trees). Also hope your youngest grandson had a productive hospital appointment - he is such a little fighter he just deserves the best.

My daughter and grandsons spent nearly 6hrs with us yesterday and we had a great day relaxing in and out doors (well not all of it relaxing(but definitely funfilled as I had several sessions of swingball and a kick-about).  Hubby enjoyed the 'normality' of the day and though I know he has had to take more pain relief the last few days (and is sleeping a bit more and eating less) he managed with just a short afternoon nap (our eldest grandson told us that as grandad needed to rest we could play outdoors until he woke up and then perhaps he could have a treat from grandad's chocolate box -much laughter at the simplicity of a child's acceptance and thinking).  We sent them on their way later with a bag of goodies (son in laws birthday gifts and Easter eggs/money) and later today they go away for their week's break with Father in law.

We also managed to both go out for the evening (bingo was fun but 'no profit' this week) and as it was Hubby's friend's birthday (two on the same day!!) they had an extended celebratory night a their local (his mate turned 75 and enjoyed a spot of singing too!!) and we picked them up at 11.45.  Hubby has yet to surface this morning so I have walked the 2mile round trip to the supermarket and done the weekly shop (he is not doing much driving now that he is taking extra relief).  Hubby has just renewed his fishing rod licence and weather permitting should  be out with our son later in the week (he can use his Christmas present (new rod) and birthday gift (lightweight tackle box) for the first time and spend some quality time with each other in relaxing surroundings (keepng fingers crossed for good weather and 'feel okay day').

Well, my plans are much simpler today - tidy and mow and then sit and read.  Its a lovely day here and outlook for even warmer tomorrow so plenty to smile about.

Hope you and Mrs B are doing okay and enjoy the weekend.  Hugs to all   Jules xx

  • Hi George

So pleased to see the good results.  Better than you might have hoped for.

    Live long and prosper.

  • Hi Jules

So pleased you had such a good time with the family.  It certainly does raise an interesting picture of playing swingball and bouncing the baby at the same time!  Perhaps an idea if they get a bit too much one day.

Nice to hear that hubby also managed an evening out.  Hopefully he will be able to get some use of the presents and do some fishing - never seen the attraction myself.

    Best wishes.

    Gill

  • Hi Jules, Gill and last but not least George,

Just returned from one of my regular cancer committee meetings and picked up some chips on my way home. Tasted real good but is not helping me to lose weight but the smell tempted me yet again. My nose wins out every time!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grandson had good results at London yesterday and my son and daughter in law were able to get some answers to questions at last having seen the main man at last.

    Jules.

Glad both you and hubby had a good evening out last night and also enjoyed the company of your family for much of yesterday. When our grandchildren visit and are just about to return home, They always ask for a sweet for the journey which is less than five minutes away and it always make Mrs B laugh.

    Gill.

Thanks for the reply an the Amazing Quotes thread. Still have about 650 picture quote stored but it does take time trying to select which one to use as I am spoilt for choice.

    George.

I think there was once a Battle of the Roses, well we will just have to re-write history or at least add the Battle of the Tulips. I am posting a picture of a tulip that had a very large flower head. All I know is it's a tulip of some sort.

    To all.

I wish you all a peaceful weekend and hope the sunshine so that you can get out into the garden.,

Take care, best wishe to you and you families, Brian.

  • Hi Gill

I am right with you on the 'fishing' thing.  Went once many moons ago (pre marriage) and was so glad I had a book!!!  Hubby has always preferred sea fishing and used to go for a week away with a group of mates every year.  Sadly he just cannot manage that side of things now so 'lakeside' fishing is a small compensation.  Our son enjoys the relaxing side of it and its good they can go together and have valuable time together.  Not sure yet which day this week it will be but it will be weather dependent (some time after Tuesday when our son is on leave for a few days leading up to Easter).

Hope you doing okay and its lovely to see you offering support to so many others on the forum whilst you yourself have so much going on.  Weather good here at the moment though still a bit chilly so am about to put on a 'bodywarmer' and get into the garden until hubby comes down for breakfast (mine was some time ago now!!).  Take care.  Jules x

  • Morning Brian

Weather turned on me yesterday and though I managed to week half the back garden (again!!) and also mowed the lawn, it was not warm enough to sit and read..  Today has once again dawned bright and I am now off outside to carry on where I left off until hubby gets up for breakfast. Hope you both have a good day. Jules x
