Continuing the journey

Hi All

Decided to drop the 'month' from the title of this thread as time moves so quickly and the date becomes irrevelant so quickly.

Hubby and I both feeling pretty drained today but not because of his illness. However it is something that has made both us further stressed and 'outside our control'.  Prepare yourselves for a rant or look away now.

Having put in a long work day yesterday (both of us). I switched on my mobile on leaving work to find a message from the social worker for Mum (regular readers of my thread will know what we have been going through recently).  The upshott of this message was that the Social Services panel have decided that they can offer Mum a place at a sheltered housing complex but not the most local one. The call was to advise me of the panel's decision and to tell me that a visit will be arranged this week, preferably by Wednesday, for Mum to be taken to visit the flat and be told about the package of care and how it will work. They require a decision from Mrs K (this is how my mother is addressed in the follow up e-mail!!) by Friday otherwise the placement will be offered to another service provider!  Unfortunately this means Mum has little choice but to move further away (closest sheltered housing has no vacancy and they are  not willing to help fund where she has spent the last 9 months 'settling in').  The guilt I feel at being unable to cope with this is overwhelming, my hubby is very supportive and angry in equal parts and I am dreading the days ahead.  I am unable to take leave and my negative feelings towards her social worker would not work in Mum's favour as she needs to go on the visit with an open mind and the care home staff state she is quite able to make her own mind up.  If she agrees I will be unable to visit as regularly (my problem not theirs of course) but apparently the social worker will accompany her and I have asked to be kept informed.

Even typing this is making me sad/angry/frustrated and emotionally/physically drained.  I was due to visit Mum today but this is on hold until I have spoken to the care home this morning. Hubby says I should leave it till later in the week when we know what is going on and I suspect he is right (bearing in mind my physical upset involves many 'loo' visits (enough said!!)).

Sorry for all the negativity but just needed to get it out and try and get  myself together before I start on the phone calls.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Regards Julesxx

  • Good morning Jules,

Pleased that you had an enjoyable day yesterday and that your received lots of attention. My son also bought Mrs B an azalea so she was pleased. She did make it out for a short drive out but it made her even more tired so with hindsight she said she wished she hadn't gone out.  We went to a local farm shop and got a few things, good quality and reasonably inexpensive.

I have last night while in bed, come up with more ideas for the children's story I'm writing and it now has quite a twist at the end. Got both lawns done but part of our front one was about 50% moss. I guessed this would be the case so didn't put the grass box on. So later several birds were selecting this for nest building. There is method in my madness. I was hoping to get some photos of them but my cameras battery needed re-charging so lost out.

I hope your husband has a good birthday on Wednesday and you have made my mouth water with the mention of shop bought chips.

Hope you have a good week, take care and best wishes to you and your husband and family, Brian,

  • [[ ]]Hi Jules 14 days tuesday since my scan getting fed up I need to know what is going on in my gut is it crohns or cancer had a bad day day today 5 trips to the loo had enough .take care regards george xx   my other life

  • Morning George

Thanks for photo - your 'other life' looks interesting.  Really do hope that you get some news soon and that they can offer you some relief from your symptoms.  My sister in law had been having some bad times (similar illness and a couple of months ago finally had some 'polyps' zapped) with too many loo trips to mention.  Investigations/scans finally came up with a bacterial stomach issue and she has been having heavy dose antibiotics (and not to put it lightly bigs tubs of soothing cream).  We spoke just before they went house hunting to the Isle of Man (last weekend) and she was feeling brighter but of course has to watch diet like a hawk (she is not good at being'good').  Fingers crossed they can give you some helpful news/treatment soon especially as I know you love being out and about.  Take care and sending hugs.  Jules xx

  • Hi Brian

Like in your are we have it a bit foggy this morning but hopefully the sun just showing through will burn it back pretty quick.  I have some bits and pieces to do in the garden (including some spring cleaning of bird feeders!!).  Have bought some new seed for the goldfinches (we had eight on the feeders yesterday) and like you would love to catch them on film (have on occasion sat in the garden with camera perched only  to miss the opportunity!!).  Temperatures looking good for the next few days  so will appreciate being able to be outside after work tomorrow.  We have daughter and family coming over late afternoon (after school and swimming lessons) and son in law will bring in those fish and chips for the birthday boy (I have finally wrapped everything up in readiness to leave for him before I go to work tomorrow).

Hubby had his GP 'catch up' yesterday and it seemed to go quite well (he actually told me about it) and she also asked after me!!! (I have actually never met her as usually see one of the other docs when I go).  Community nurses also popped in to check on him so he is being well looked after - great local services.

Well I hear footsteps from overhead so will go and get the 'old boy' his breakfast and then put on the wellies.  Hope you and Mrs B are good.  Jules x

  • Morning Hope

Well, returned from work to find hubby surrounded by his opened presents and in good spirits. Daughter and  grandchildren came over after his swimming lesson and I gave baby Zack his yummy puree 'tea' and then he had a power nap as he has been out of routine with the clocks changing and has a cough keeping him restless at night.  Eldest grandson headed for the garden and played with his new football (which he promptly kicked out of the garden and is now 'lost' until hopefully found by the neighbour and returned (as I could not see it in the alley!!) so he amused himself with the Swingball and some of grandad's chocs!!  Our son in law brought in the fish and chips on his way home from work and hubby polished off his cod and chips really well (he skipped lunch other than 'dunking biscuits in coffee' as was determined to enjoy his treat).  Baby sat in his seat having had his last milk and was changed ready for bed so he could be put straight into his cot when they got in.  After another game of Swingball with his Dad the family left around 7.30 (so a late night before school today but worth it!!) Luckily its only a quick 10 min drive home.

Bet you looking forward to the Easter break - not too long now.  Hope you and the family are keeping well.  Chat again soon.  Jules xx

  • Hi George

How frustrating that you are still awaiting results when all you want to do is find out whats going on and how they can improve things for your conditions.  Hope it wont be too much longer.

Had daughter and family around for our fish and chips treat for hubby's birthday and a good time was had by all.  Can't fail to smile when surrounded by a gurgling baby and a lively 5 1/2 yr old!!  Swingball in the garden being well used (After what I ate perhaps I could use this as added exercise though may get funny looks from the neighbours if out there alone!!)

Not so nice here this morning but am off to work so maybe by the time I come home, mid afternoon,it will have cheered up. Have a good day.Jules xx

  • Good morning Jules,

While shopping this morning, I saw a sign in my local nut shop saying there is a vacancy for a part time worker. Now that would be my ideal occupation, working in a shop that sold lots of different nuts. The only problem would be, either they would go bust within a month or I would become bankrupt. Maybe the company needs an expert nut taster, that would be even better for I might be able to get paid for eating nuts . The only problem with this is I would put on lots of weight.

After this nutty foolery, I had some bad news yesterday. My father is in hospital again this time with a serious hip infection. My oldest brother was with him yesterday and my youngest sister is visiting him today and she doesn't know when she will be back home.

Glad Hubby enjoyed his presents and the fish and chips and the visit from family. As I was driving home from my grandchildren last night, I caught a whiff of fish and chips and it reminded me that you were having some. Brianitus imediatly took hold and all of it's own volitions, my car miraculously found its way to the chip shop. I bought a small portion of chip which Mrs B help me consume when I got home, despite her telling me earlier if I bought any she would not want any. But when I dangled them under her nose she changed her mind quite rapidly. My youngest grandson told me he want me to include CAPTAIN AMERICA in my next story for him so will have to research as I know nothing about this character.

Take care Jules best wishes to you, your hubby and family, Brian

  • Hi Brian

What a shame to read that your poor Dad is back in hospital.  Hope they can zap the infection  quickly and am sure your siblings will keep you up to date.

Loving the idea of you taking that vacancy - you would be a great advert for the nuts - maybe they need a 'window dresser' who could advertise their wares.  Nice to know Brianitis took hold with the diversion to get 'chips'.  There is just something about the shop bought variety that you cannot replicate at home!!  Nice of Mrs B to help you out too(temptation just too much).  Sharing is a great way to control calories!!!

I'm pretty sure that Captain America is a Marvel creation but other than that cant help I am afraid (am pretty sure you will be googling it as we speak, or perhaps already have).  The little rascal certainly keeps you on your toes with story lines.

Hope you and Mrs B have a good weekend and that the weather turns out better than the forecast suggests.  Was beautiful here on my way home (had to take off my coat it was so warm) but has now completely clouded over.  Look after yourselves.  Jules xx
