  • Hi Nal95,

What heart-breaking news it must be for you to find out that your father has stage 4 bowel cancer and it's normal for you to be feel a little bit powerless, that you don't really know how you can help or what you can do during this difficult time. We have information on our website which you might find useful on treatment for metastatic bowel cancer including a section on treatment options for metastatic bowel cancer and we have a page which is specifically on chemotherapy for metastatic bowel cancer. I hope that your dad's chemotherapy treatment goes well and that it is effective.

I hope that you will hear from others here who have had a similar diagnosis and that they will be happy to share with you what helped them and whether chemotherapy worked well for them. I had a little look around the forum for you and I have found a thread which you might find inspiring and which you are welcome to respond to if you wish. A few months ago  posted this thread about being diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic bowel cancer and like your dad this member was diagnosed with bowel cancer that spread to the stomach and lungs and had chemotherapy for it in 2024. You are not alone and I hope that you will hear from others who have faced a similar situation.

If you have any questions or simply want to talk things through with someone, we have a nurse helpline you can ring on this free number 0808 800 4040 - it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and you are very welcome to reach out and speak to them about your dad's situation and his treatment options.

Best of luck to your dad as he is about to start chemotherapy I hope it all goes well for him and we are here anytime you want to offload. Keep us updated if you don't mind on how things go for your dad.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello, sorry to hear about your dad, I hope his treatment goes well. I have had 57 rounds of chemotherapy, which equates to 1000s of hours. Started in May 2024. I tolerate it very well. Keeping physically fit and active is, I think, crucial. Also keeping nutrition up, if I don't feel hungry, but know I should eat, I have Complan. I think it's harder for the people around you, there is nothing they can do to change anything. But just being there is vital. I've seen people in the Chemo Day Unit who look like they're just giving up, maybe they don't have the family support. I started Chemo on 3 different medications, now only on 1. I am just waiting for the latest CT Scan results. A small nodule was identified on the  previous scan. I had this once before, around a year ago, but it disappeared, so was most likely a little bit if inflammation, so hopefully the same again. If not, I may have to go back on to one of the other medications. If you have any questions I ca help with, please dont hesitate to ask. Best wishes to your Dad and family.
