My dad was diagnosed with throat cancer: post treatment effects

Hi, my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer, and has just undergone radiotherapy 5 days a week for 6 weeks and chemotherapy 1 day per week for 6 weeks running along side each other

We had his six week post check at the hospital, and everything was fine however my dad has got lots of aches and pains throughout his body and a dry throat

Is this the side effects of the treatment?

thank you

Kay

  • we are waiting now for his re scan to see if the treatment worked but that’s in another 5 weeks time

  • Hi Kay,

You have come to the right forum to talk to others who have been diagnosed with throat cancer as we have a very active bunch of members here who have dealt with throat cancer and who may well have suffered similar side effects to your dad. I am sure they will be happy to share with you what their experience was like in terms of treatment side effects, whether they also experienced lots of aches and pains and a dry throat as a result of treatment. RadioactiveRaz will I am sure have some great insights for you as well as Anchor1707 - both keep a blog of their experience and I will invite you also to take a look at Anchor1707 's gigantic throat cancer thread created 7 years ago which is still very active and which you are welcome to respond to.

We also have useful information on our website on throat cancer and it might be worth giving our cancer nurses a call on their free helpline 0808 800 4040 - you can get in touch with them Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to answer questions you might have.

I am glad everything went fine at the six weeks' check at the hospital despite these aches and dry throat issues. It must be an agonising wait for you and I can imagine you really want to know by now whether the treatment worked. I am certainly keeping everything crossed for you that things are going in the right direction and I thought I would share with you our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I will now let our members who have direct experience of throat cancer come and say hello and share their own throat cancer treatment experiences with you.

    Best wishes,
