Parent with stage 4

I have just found out that my dad has stage 4 cancer it’s such a shock, he is so young, it’s spread. I don’t know what to do for example cry with him or be strong for him

  • Hello Jmg1989,

I am so sorry about your dad's stage 4 cancer diagnosis and I can imagine it came as a shock. It's hard to know what to do and it's normal to feel a bit lost and powerless after receiving this news. In a situation like this, it can be difficult to know how to react but I think the best thing to do is to be yourself and follow your heart, be there for him and show him that you care and that you are there to listen if he needs to talk or offload.

Our website has valuable information for Family, Friends and Carers which will tell you more about how to support someone with cancer whilst making sure - as it's easy to forget - you are still taking care of yourself

So many members of our community have been in a similar situation before and know how upsetting it is to find out that a parent has stage 4 cancer or to have a loved one who has had a similar diagnosis. I will let them now come and say hello and share their personal stories and coping strategies with you.

We're thinking of you and your dad during these difficult times.

    Best wishes,
