Mums been diagnosed with secondary liver cancer

Hi All,

Newbie here.

My world’s family has recently been turned upside down when we found out my mum has liver cancer, which doctors think could potentially be secondary liver cancer. We are currently waiting for her to have a biopsy and then the results will tell us more.

I am so so scared, my every waking thought is consumed by my mums diagnosis. She’s 56 and really fit for her age which people keep saying will make a different and I pray it does. I guess I’m looking for advice on how people coped with hearing their loved one has cancer and any positive stories of people beating secondary liver cancer would be so so appreciated.

sending love to everyone battling this disease and their families. What a horrible horrible disease it is xx

  • The waiting is the worst isn’t it and I too am consumed with worry currently so I can empathise with you.
My Mum was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at the end of 2023, had a stoma before chemo & radiotherapy and then several months later had surgery for removal along with many lymph nodes. We booked a holiday for this August to celebrate being cancer free. Only several weeks ago she developed upper abdominal pain, had a scan Monday which resulted in an immediate CT, to be told 14hrs later abnormalities in the liver. My fear is secondary liver cancer and have to wait until next weeks appointment following an MDT. My stomach is in knots and the fear is real. I and my siblings are in bits.
I simply don’t know where to turn, she’s in so much pain with other symptoms too. Being a health care professional myself and the eldest child to my Mum who's on her own, I feel I need to be the strong one for everyone.
Sending you and your family my thoughts and well wishes x
