Travelling to the hospital for treatment. How can we ensure my wife doesn't miss her treatment?

My wife has triple negative breast cancer and has to go to the hospital every week for treatment. The West Midlands Ambulance Services take her and bring her back but keep saying she should not have transport to the fact today when she was having treatment the ambulance transport office said they had booked her transport but in fact had not resulting in her almost missing her treatment and on the return left her sitting in the hospital for almost 4hrs waiting for transport home only to find it had not been booked. Is there any other way of booking transport without this happening again. Is she entitled to a social worker.

  • Does your wife have a specialist cancer nurse she can contact? They may be able to sort out this problem for her.

  • Hi Adriani,

I am sorry to hear that your wife is having such problems with the ambulance service. Most hospitals make allowances for patients who are late due to ambulance delays. Some areas have volunteer drivers, who use their own cars, to take cancer patients for treatment. Ask your wife's care team at the hospital, or her GP. if they are aware of such a service and if they have any contact details.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine
