Close work friend has just received a cancer diagnosis, stage 4. How can I support them?

One of my close work colleagues has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. It’s come as a huge shock—completely unexpected. I really want to support him in the best way I can, but I feel I don’t have enough knowledge, especially when it comes to the mental and emotional side of what he might be going through.

If anyone can recommend any articles, books, or resources that could help me be more supportive during this time, I’d be truly grateful. This is such a horrible situation, and I just want to be there for him in the right way.

  • Hi, my husband is on his journey through chemo radiation therapy. From our experience as you are so preoccupied by the process and trauma of diagnosis, doing practical things like cooking nice meals or dropping off casseroles are really appreciated. Take your friend out for coffee or lunch, anything that is a distraction from cancer!
