First Chemo

Hi

My husband starts his first Chemo in 1 and half weeks. He has it on the Wednesday and I am meant to be going away on the Thursday and Friday nights. I can easily just go Friday or not go at all. My question is .....are people normally ill after the first treatment or does it build up? I'm not sure wether he's going to be ok on his own. I don't want to abandon him but I also would like to go where I am going. It's a memorial for a family friend and I am supposed to be taking my mother.

What are people's experiences after first Chemo? I really don't know what to expect.

Thank you

Denise

  • Hi Denise I am sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis.  My first chemo was fine and I didn't really have any side effects with the first one, but it does build up after every session.  There are so many different chemo medications and no two people react the same.  Does your husband feel he will be okay by himself?  It is hard to judge but I wish you and your husband well on your cancer journey.

  • Thank you Lee. I appreciate your response. I can't tell you how worried I am. This is Palliative Chemo every 3 weeks with daily tablets too. In the space of 2 months it's gone from nothing wrong to terminal. I think I'm going to leave it til Thursday night.

  • Hi Denise,  it's a horrible disease.  I am on palliative chemo as well.  Had stage 3 cancer twelve years ago and now it has come back.  My oncologist says it's not terminal but it is treatable and not cureable.  There is so many new drugs coming out now and new trials as well.  Macmillan have some really good forums and are very helpful and there is a forum called living with incurable cancer and there are so many inspiring people on there, it really helps me.  Take care and here if you need to chat.
