Rapid PSA fall - Prostate Cancer

My initial PSA check in Nov last year came back as 83.2 and following an MRI, bone scans & a biopsy, I've been diagnosed with Metastatic Prostate cancer. I'm due to meet my Oncologist shortly to discuss chemotherapy after having been on Zoladex jabs for around 7 weeks. My pre meeting blood test has shown my PSA has dropped to 0.85. Is this unusual in such a short space of time?

  • Hi Markv, your PSA drop is wonderful news'

  • That is really good news. When my husband first started the hormone therapy injections his PSA dropped rapidly from 281 to 5. He had been unable to walk properly and was in a lot of pain. With the injections he was able to feel normal again and  was fully mobile. He forgot how bad he had been! It was amazing.

However in his case, (all are different) the cancer eventually worked it out and started to progress again. His was an aggressive type, gleeson score 10 and very widespread but thanks to various treatments he was able to have an extra 4 years of relatively normal life, so was very grateful for the extra time he was given.
