Prostate cancer

My dad as prostate cancer its terminal he as a cathetar,  he's 5 years in, and as had radiotherapy and his currently on hormone injections but his psa level as risen to 80 and his consultant wants to stop his hormone therapy as he feels it's not working  , the consultant offered chemotherapy but said it would only give him a extra 2 to 3 month extra to live and my father would probably be poorly with it and without chemotherapy  treatment they said his life expectancy would be 1 to 2 years is there anything else that could slow the cancer from spreading .

  • Hi Josli, and welcome to the forum, I am so sorry to hear about your dad, I too have terminal prostate cancer,  and know how hard this time is for loved ones, it's difficult to mention any alternative treatments, not knowing your dad's details, and even then they may not be suitable or like chemotherapy the time gained may not be worth how unwell they make your dad feel, if you could give a little information on your dad's treatments, where his cancer has spread and his general health, it  maybe  help you find an answer,  best wishes Eddie

Hi Josli, your welcome, if your dads cancer is still confined to the prostate, localised, this usually means treatment is done to cure, so i'm not sure why he's been given his prognosis, or why they have waited until his PSA is 80, to change his treatment, maybe ask your oncologist tomorrow, as something doesn't add up. my very best wishes for tomorrows meeting, I will have everything crossed for good results.
