Alone - husband refusing to tell family and friends about diagnosis and upcoming surgery

My husband  is refusing to tell family and friends about his diagnosis and upcoming surgery I will be staying at a hotel for a few days while he has it quite a way from home in a town I have never been to as I don’t drive  I will be so alone and anxious

  • I was in a similar situation five years ago when my husband had an operation for stomach cancer. I told the hotel receptionist that I did not know about my length of stay because it depended on my husband's recovery. The staff could not have been more considerate and they made a point of asking me how he was getting on. If you spend some time in the hotel lounge other guests will talk to you and you will not feel alone. I also took the opportunity to spend time between visiting hours to look around town and purchase items which were needed in hospital. If you keep busy time will fly and you will soon be home! Of course you will be anxious but concentrate on the fact that your husband will be in good hands and will,in time, recover.

    Best wishes
