Hi we as a family await a follow up scan on outcome of a huge parotid gland tumour operation caught early rare and aggressive.  Belts and braces 6 weeks radiotherapy and my brother has been a star. Not lost any weight. Positive attitude.

Had follow you head and neck scan 4 weeks ago has follow up appointment with brilliant surgeon next week.

would we have heard sooner if there was negative news?

 Thank you

  • Hi Rileyflynn4,

Well done to your brother for getting through the 6 weeks of radiotherapy and I hope that he is recovering well from the parotid gland tumour operation. It sounds like he has a brilliant surgeon and that he is in the best possible hands and I hope that the appointment with the surgeon goes well next week.

I don't think it necessarily means anything good or bad how early you hear back - it's hard to read anything into it but I really hope all goes well next week and that it's all positive news. By the way, only yesterday I replied to a member who seems to be going through something similar to what your brother experienced and who was waiting to have a parotidectomy. Have a look at  's thread and if you would like to share your brother's experience if you think it might be relevant to this member, this would be extremely helpful. It can be comforting too to be in touch with others who have something similar especially if it is quite rare as it is easy to feel a little lonely with it.

I am so pleased your brother seems to be doing so well and I hope that he is recovering quickly from the operation.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Lucie.  It’s late just now but i will share. It’s been tough on everyone but onwards upwards with positivity. I should have added that my brothers gp was main reason this was detected so quickly.   He chased my brother as to why he didn’t come back to see him after course if antibiotics was completed.  Otherwise my brother would have carried on regardless until being nagged by family again !! Stubborn .
    regards
