Due to have a Parotidectomy. Has anyone else had this? I'm concerned about the op, recovery and possible side effects

Hi I'm due to have parotidectomy as I have a pleomorphic adenoma. I have alot of concerns about this operation and the recovery and side affects. After i read all the comments on this and still feel concerned. Can any one offer advice, anyone who  has been through this procedure.

I'm more concerned that it may be cancerous.ive had the lump over 6 years. It has gradually increased in size. It is situated around my facial nerve.

  • Hello Buzzcut,

A pleomorphic adenoma is a benign slow-growing tumour which is normally removed with surgery  - our website has useful information on the parotidectomy and if you wanted to ask our nurses any questions about the operation don't hesitate to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be very happy to talk things through with you.

You are not alone though as there have been other members of this forum who have had the parotidectomy before and who I hope will be along to offer advice based on their personal experiences with the procedure.  for example posted this thread a few months ago now mentioning at the time that they had just had a parotidectomy to remove a benign tumour - so similar circumstances to you and I hope that they will be able to pop by and share their story with you.

I hope that the operation will go well and that you recover swiftly from it!

    Best wishes,
