Son diagnosed with sarcoma in lower leg at 19.

Back in Aug my son had a lump on his leg, gp sent to a and e. Long story short was referred for further tests after mri referred to another hospital for a biopsy then after 6 weeks diagnosed with synovial sarcoma. Since then he has had 4 cycles of chemo on a 21 day cycle. Before cycle 3 a mri showed a pneumothorax and ended up having surgery at another hospital as out local hospital wouldn't do the surgery. After cycle 4 we have been told his heart has been affected by one of the treatments so he is now on tablets for that and they have taken the doxyrubin out of his treatment. We are awaiting an apot with the surgeon regards next steps put back from Dec as he was just out from lung surgery so not until next month. We are vack next week for cycle 5 chemo and I feel I am reaching breaking point spending 3 days with him trying to stay positive when I am emotionally and physically drained from all the stress. Are there any other parents like me?

  • Hi NikkijaneL,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of the situation with your son and what you are going through at the moment. This sounds like a lot to deal with and I'm not surprised you are feeling drained.

I wanted to send a reply as it will mean a few more people should see your post, so hopefully you'll get some more replies soon. Otherwise, do have a browse or search of the forum for other discussions and people to speak to.

It's important to get support for yourself through all this - by speaking to others around you, by writing things down and connecting with others on the forum here, or by getting in touch with relevant support organisations. For example Maggie's and Macmillan both have good support groups, helplines, and various resources.

I hope that the forum can be of some help to you - we are always here if you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
