Mum seems to have lost her sparkle

My Mum has breast cancer in stomach and now bowel. Of course she’s poorly.

But I feel that she’s gone already. Her character has gone, her sparkle, she seems depressed but she said she’s not.

She doesn’t want to do anything or go anywhere. She doesn’t seem particularly happy to hear from me whereas she used to chat forever.

it’s hit me that really, the person she was has left already. And nothing I can do can change that.

im very much struggling with it. Can’t even make her laugh anymore.

My brother copes by minimising contact as he says it brings him down. He has done a lot practically - an awful lot - to make her more comfortable in her surroundings, but she doesn’t seem happy with that either.

it’s just as though the light has gone out.

Can anyone relate?

thanks.

  • Hi Lisalou24,

I'm sorry to hear this - I can understand this must be really difficult, to see someone you love change. It sounds like you are both doing a lot to support her, and I'm sure that is appreciated.

I'm sure there will be others here who can relate to this, and hopefully you'll get some more replies soon from others with similar experience to share.

Take things slowly, a day at a time, and keep looking after yourself. And we are always here on the forum for support if ever you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
