  • Hello Tinsel and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

Your mum's story is truly heartbreaking and I am really sorry that they diagnosed her too late when the tumour had already spread. It's so sad that she collapsed shortly after having just one dose of chemotherapy and her bowel was perforated. It sounds like she has been going through so much and I can imagine it has been devastating news to you to be told that she is not allowed any more treatment. It's so hard to witness all this and to feel so powerless. Perhaps you could try and talk to her medical team to see whether there is anything they could offer to make her more comfortable and prolong her life or you could ask them any questions that spring to your mind so that you get some clarity as to what her options might be at this stage.

Feel free to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to talk things through with them at any point.

I hope you won't mind but I have changed the title of your thread to make it more specific so that it can be spotted more easily by others who find themselves in a similar situation or who have a relative who has also been diagnosed with advanced oesophageal cancer.

We're thinking of you during this difficult time and wanted you to know that you are not alone, that other members of our community understand what you are going through.

    Best wishes,
