I'm not a doctor or nurse but do have lung cancer. It is correct that they will need a biopsy to establish which type of cancer it is, there are diffent types and they have different treatments so this is the right path.

If there is possibly something on the spine again they need to see if thats related, again this is the right path to take.

The tests should be done over the next week or two. There may also be other tests such as PET scan, brain scan and lung function tests, once all done all the results will be discussed at MDT (multi disciplinary team) thats where they all sit round the table and discuss what your mum has and what treatment is available for her, any other health conditions she has, her general health etc will also form part of that decision making.

Once all this is established you'll get an appointment to go in and see what they reccomend and can do for her.

As I think this is a big negative for my mum being 77 and loosing so much weight in the last 2 months i do worry whetherr she is strong enought to cope with whats to come xx

My mum turns 60 in a couple of weeks so still rather young! Yes the weight things shocks me too. My mum has always been slim but now she is so skinny it's alarming to see. 

Mum had her mri  scan on Friday just gone she has a 3.5 by 5 cm tumour in her lung and a few spots seen on her spine  . we already have an appointment for a meeting with the consultant and nurses on thursday and she hasn't even had her biopsy yet ... this can't be good ?

That's a big tumour but don't go into panic mode, I had a much bigger one they managed to remove  however i was much younger (56) and was reasonably fit with no other medical conditions.

My team were quick, it's possible they want to get her started on something and not necessarily bad news.

I can't tell you what they'll say. Take a deep breath, go to the appointment and write down what they say as it's so easy to forget with your thoughts being all over the place.

In the meantime if you need a shoulder ...... i have two you can lean on anytime.

Thank.you so much for your support and advise it's very much appreciated latest update is it has been confirmed  it has spread to her spine and looks like she has some spinal compression will be starting radiotherapy asap 

We are keeping her spirits up although it is very hard as we are seeing differences in her health from day to day but hey positive thinking just taking 1 day at a time

Thanks for the update,  it's good to hear she has a treatment plan in place and quickly at that.

I've not had radiotherapy so can't really offer any advice on that for you, very best of luck with it though.
