My son's biopsy results following a colonoscopy then taken during an emergency colostomy from several places in the tumour have both been very slow (more than 2 week) and come back 'inconclusive'. His team were keen to do chemotherapy before removing his tumour, but he was so ill and the tumour growing so fast, they went ahead and removed the tumour (and most of his colon and inflamed lymph nodes.) They also converted his colostomy to an illiostomy at the same time. All tissues removed were sent off to be analysed. More than 2 weeks again, still no results.
We are beside ourselves with fear, this has been such a fast growing tumour yet they can't tell us what it is, and chemotherapy can't start until they know what needs to be attacked chemically.
What should we do? Is this lack of funding? Shortage of staff? If they come back inconclusive AGAIN, what can we / should we do?
