Post Throat Radiotherapy side effects help

Hi all, I have been lurking and reading on here for a while and have read Ian, Hazel and Gary's blogs and keep referring to them, thank you all for being so honest and informative.

My partner is 8 days post radiotherapy and chemo (35+3). He has most of the documented side effects  and has managed to avoid a feeding tube. He is really struggling to find a drink that he can tolerate, water, soda water, squash, green tea all a NO, just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Huge thanks x

  • Hello Whin49

I'm sorry to hear that your husband is struggling so much with the post-treatment side effects at the moment. it's obviously a difficult and worrying time for you both.

I'm really glad to hear that you've found such great advice and information from the blogs that Hazel, Ian, and Gary have shared. I know they have helped so many others through the sharing of their experiences.

I'm unsure about any suggestions for your husband but I can see that [@RadioactiveRaz]‍ (Hazel) has shared this tip in one of her comments on this thread. I'd suggest you also post on that thread as I'm sure that some of the members there will be able to offer their advice and tips for drinking.

Do speak to his clinical nurse specialist if things don't improve of if you're at all concerned.

Keep in touch and let us know how you're both doing. I do hope that things improve soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Whin well done to hubby and yiu  in getting through treatment. I really struggled with drink I couldn't drink tap  as ours is too hard even now 4 years later I drink bottled. At your stage inwas drinking Luke warm water microwaved bottled  water for 10-15/seconds it varied but worth trying. Flat diet Coke as well . I understand he has no tube but sometimes they still have ti be fitted it would be  ng tube after treatment worth thinking about  as liquid is really important to aid recovery as well as food .i was drinking 2 litres of water a day ti flush the chemo and radiation out of my body. Hope this helps. Remember keep on top of oral hygiene.
