I'm sorry to hear your mother has a 4cm bowel tumour Worriedwellster.

I know this must be worrying so if you'd like to discuss this in more detail with one of our cancer nurses, they'll be available next week on 0808 800 4040 between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you and hope it won't be long until you find out what happens next.

            sorry to read about your Mum, l assume that the tumour has been confirmed as cancerous. 4cm would suggest it would be in the stage two range, the size is not so important as the degree of  penetration of the bowel wall. Too soon for surgery could point to chemo/radiotherapy to stop the spread and shrink the tumour before surgery If  that is required at a later date. That was the case with myself ten years ago when diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer with subsequent spread to the liver.

Its early days and although its all too easy to think of the worst,please remember you only usually hear of the bad outcomes,the good ones are far too busy getting on with life to post here.Since every cancer is different,you really have to wait for your Mums individual assessment and subsequent action plan, meanwhile the good news is that the wheels are in motion and once all the multi disciplinary team have had their meeting,you will have a clearer picture of the road ahead.

hopefully you should hear within a few weeks,in the meantime stay calm and refrain from second guessing the outcome,

hiya david   was reading ur post and seem u had stage 4 and into liver   as your  posting  you have to had come though it good  what was your treatments   my hubby was same as you in dec  operated  and put on immumotherly   until now  doing good  but test for liver are a little high dr thinks it the immumotherpy  as every thing else is really good all bloods good and weight and everything  

how have you got on in ten years  and good for ya
