Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of the tricky situation with your son - although glad that the initial treatment went well.

This sounds really difficult, and I'm sure even more so as a parent. It's hard to advise especially without knowing more about your son and the wider situation. Hopefully the talking therapies will be helpful in reducing his fears and worries about the treatment - I'm sure that in time this will be the case especially if there are a number of professionals supporting him, as well as his family.

If there are others here with any similar experience or advice to offer then hopefully they'll be along soon.

Hi Micherog,

I'm sorry your son is going through this. My husband had the operation where the cancerous testicle was removed and he didn't need any follow up treatment. This was pre covid. We have since then had another child. We were fine until Jan this year and one of his blood test results showed raised markers. The cancer has returned as a retro perineal  type if I'm not mistaken. He has just finished his carboplstin treatment of 3 sessions. One of the tumours have gone the other significantly reduced. We will have to keep getting monitored as there's always a risk. We missed on routine check ups due to covid and it grew. This is our experience. Chemo is difficult however this is a responsive type and successful outcomes. It is also a lot on my husband. He has withdrawn to himself and became more angry. We have 1 young child and one baby. To answer your question. I wish we had done a treatment earlier to not be here at all. But no one wants this and it happens. And it happened to us too. Better than some and luckier than the others. We have to support our loved ones in their decisions as it is so tough for them. Sorry for rambling on.

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to see how your husband is getting on? We are going through a similar thing and wanted to reach out to someone who understands. My husband had testicular cancer 2 years ago, had surgery to remove the testicle and one round of chemo. He’s now got similar symptoms and fears the cancer has returned in other testicle (CT scan tomorrow) I’m wondering how common it is to have both testicles removed.

Did your husband have the same type of cancer 2nd time round?

Thanks for the replies Touba. I’m glad that your husband is doing ok now. We are still waiting for results and can relate to the stressful waiting time. He’s got an appointment in a week to discuss results. Can I ask, did you husband have the testicle removed first time? 

Yes he did, I’m sorry I pressed report instead of reply on the message below. He had one remived and had no after treatment but this was pre covid. After covid he had the rumours appear elsewhere and had 3 sessions of cheemo. So far so good. Hope you get good news soon. No news is good news x
