Recurring ovarian cancer

Good afternoon

My sister was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer and she had a full hysterectomy and chemotherapy. Her CA125 were at roughly 11 for several months but now they have started increasing to 20'and now 35. She did a scan and they suspect a recurrence in her bowel.

She is 49 and quite fit / healthy. My question is, is there a way for doctors to treat these relapses and make it a chronic illness? I cannot sleep and I am worried sick. I know she is the one who is ill but this is literally all I think about.

She needs to do another scan soon with dye injected in her veins to get a clearer picture.

Thanks

  • Hello Frankster and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am so sorry to hear about your sister's diagnosis and the suspected recurrence in her bowel. I can understand why you are feeling so worried and I hope that this other scan she will be doing soon will shed some light on what is going on. I am not sure myself how doctors tend to treat these relapses but perhaps you could ask your sister's medical team? They will be best placed to tell you more about it and will be aware of your sister's previous diagnosis and medical history.

Don't hesitate to give our cancer nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 if there is anything you would like to ask them - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you will also hear from others on the forum who have had recurring ovarian cancer and that they will be along shortly to share their treatment experiences with you.

    Best wishes,
