Im really struggling to cope - nan has stage 4 lung cancer

On january 5th i was told that my 82 year old nan was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and it was inoperable and she was to far gone for chemotherapy. She's now taking morphine and this steroid to help her breath better and ease the pain. Personally i don't know how to feel or even how to work out how to deal with the fact i have a couple months left with one of women who helped raise me, who's always been there and did there apsolute best to make my life better any way she could and now i feel helpless. Her health is just on the decline and it gets worse each and every time i go down to visit and it really just hurts to sit there and try to talk to her normally while watching her have coughing fits and struggling to breath or even move out of her chair.

  • Sorry to hear about your Nan my mum passed away in 2020 with stage 4 lung cancer which had spread to her brain :( I didn't believe she would be taken away so soon. So I didn't get anything out that I wanted to tell her or ask.

it is hard to see them like this. All I can say is give her plenty of hugs and tell her how much she has helped you and how much you love her. X

  • Hi

I found out today that my dad has lung cancer.

I don't know how to cope.

I feel that I'm struggling to breath. My heart is hurting and I am constantly crying.

    My dad is my world.

I can't bare to think of life without him.
I don't know what to do! How to cope!

  • Its just such a hard situation. It just chips away at the soul every time you think about loosing them especially when you know they don't have a chance of winning this battle. Kindest regards

  • So sorry to hear about your Nan.

It is hard, the hardest thing ever.

  • Hello,

Feel your pain I really do, my Mum has just been diagnosed with lung cancer both lungs and right lymph nodes (she had kidney cancer that was removed in 2019) and starts chemo drug in March. Its incurable but hopefully for a time controllable. I'm living with her and she is my life. I know your feelings of complete shock, sadness, scared and everything inbetween. How do we cope at the thoughts of losing them? I can't. She is my life. My best friend. I don't have children (unfortunately) and I really feel I'm struggling so when I read all of your posts my heart goes to you because I know what you thinking and feeling, we are in this similar journey together and its absolutely terrifying. I'm here if anyone needs to talk. Take care. Hug them tight and take one day at a time.
