Advanced tongue cancer- what mouthwash helps numb the pain?

Hello,

my dad has advanced tongue cancer (in lympnodes and lungs) and he was told there are mouthwashes that he can have before he eats and after to help numb his throat so he can eat. We didn't manage to get the name before the appointment ended and all the ones online we see are for chemo mouth ulcers. Has anybody else used any numbing mouth washes to help eat when there's cancer in the mouth?

Thanks in advance !

  • Hello Sam.K

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis and that he's struggling with eating at the moment. It's obviously a difficult time for you all.

We've lots of members here on the forum who have experience with different types of oral cancers and I'd suggest posting a message on this thread. As you'll see it's a very active thread with lots of people posting and it may be that someone is able to share their recommendations with you.

If your Dad has a specialist nurse then you could give them a call to ask for advice and recommendations. Or alternatively, you could try our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

I do hope that you're able to find something to help your Dad.

    Best wishes,
