Try not to worry, cancer in someone younger for example, would be unlikely and there is a good chance this could be something like a bartholin cyst that are harmless and usually settle by themselves. Try taking some tepid baths, as this can help. You could try applying some antiseptic cream if it is sore.

If something like this persists and doesn't go away, it is always best to arrange an appointment to get it checked out by your GP in case it needs treatment. You can ask to see a female doctor if it makes it easier.

Ive been monitoring my symptoms for a few months now. I can now confirm the lump only appears a week before my period and disappears soon after it's over or a few days into my period. Any ideas of what it might be? It's usually accompanied by itching and swelling too.

We can't really say what this is but as it seems to come and go it is unlikely to be anything serious. It may be linked to hormone levels, which is why it seems to appear before a period and then goes but I can't say for sure.

Itchiness and swelling around the genitals can also be linked to infection such as thrush ( a fungal infection), irritation or sensitivity. Carrying out good personal hygiene avoiding perfumed products and wearing cool cotton underwear can also help.

If you remain worried I suggest you speak to your GP so they can assess you and if needed examine and arrange some more tests.
