Symptoms

Hi.

I was just looking for some advice before decided whether or not I need to contact my GP.

for the last few months I have been having on and off pain on the outer side of my right breast which is larger than my left in this area. I also get periods of intense itching that feels like it's from the breast tissue a couple of times a week. A few months ago I did have flaking and dryness of the nipple but as I was having an eczema flare up of my wrists, I spoke to my nurse who said to treat it as eczema and contact the surgery back should there be further issues. The nipple flaking and dryness has since gone but I'm still getting pain and itching.

as I'm only 20, is this natural or is it worth me seeking help from my GP? I really don't want to waste their time if I'm just overthinking these symptoms. Thanks.

  • Hello,

Its very unlikely to be anything sinister but I think to put your mind at rest a visit to the GP or nurse would be a good idea. No one will think you're wasting their time...good luck..

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to here about the breast symptoms that you are experiencing.

Breast pain is a common symptom that women can get and is not normally associated with cancer. The charity Breast Cancer Now have produced some useful information about the different types of breast pain that women can get. Have a look here

It is good to hear that you have spoken to the nurse about your dry skin. She did encourage you to get back to her if you still had any concerns. You may find it reassuring to speak to her again and then if the nurse is at all concerned I am sure that she can arrange your doctor to do a breast examination which may put your mind at ease.

    I do hope this helps.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
