My husband was diagnosed with a high grade Gllioma on 15.9.21, having been admitted to hospial on 23.8.21 with a suspected stroke. He has been told that surgery is not an option as the tumour is too far spread and neither is chemo or radiotherapy. He was discharged to home for pallative care.
No one has given me any idea of the prognosis and I am a person who has to plan ahead, I asked if I should take time off work as I had 4 weeks due, I was told to get a sicknote. I did read that without treatment a GBM diagnosis was 2 to 3 months, the distrcit nurse told me some patients showed no sysmptoms. We had an appointment with the Neurologist a week after dischagre (this was optional). He showed us the scan and explained it was too far spread for treament. I asked himthe prognois but his response was not very clear.
I would much rather know as this would help me deal with this better, surely they must have had similar situations and some idea, I told him I had read, 2-3 months without treatment and 1 year with, he just said something like, "the earlier of the latter" so not sure what that meant, I held up 2 figures so my husband couldn't see and he said yes. We are now four weeks on and my husband is on 8mg of steroids each day which makes a big difference to the confustion he has with words. He gets very tired, but pushes himself. When the nurses phone to ask how he is, he always responds "I am fine".
I don't want to hold anyone to anything, just want to know what knowledge they have of a person in this situation. My husband is 64years of age.
