What will happen next?

Hi All

At my appointment I was sent for a biopsy (2 from breast 2 from under armpit) and ultrasound.
Next day I was sent for a full body CT scan and bone scan.
Im thinking the worst or why would they do so many tests from my first appointment. My breast is huge, hard and very 'orange peel' it's changing so quickly from finding a small lump 4 weeks ago.
my next appointment- (still a 5 days away!!)

what will happen? Will they tell me everything? is it looking bad from happening so quickly?

thank you xx

  • Hi its all happening / what will happen next

Sorry you find yourself worrying about what will happen next.

Everyone's experiences  may be similar to yours  but some may be different ,so it's hard to say what will happen next.

In  my experience ,I was seen in breast clinic, had three mamagrams ,was examined by the consultant ,lump.i could feel was also felt by the constant  too.  I had an ultrasound  which showed up the tumour. I then had 5  core biobsys, taken  three in my right bresst and two under my right  arm  and then I had a metal marker clip put into my right breast

I was told there and then that it was breast cancer.  I was tokd I'd need a operation and some treatments maybe radiotherapy and possibly chemotherapy, but thst would be discussed and decided after they had checked the biobsys that I'd had taken that day.

A few days later ,I was sent for a bone scan and a ct scan. All  was ok there, but those results were not given straight away.

So you see everyone's different,I'm sure you will get to know soon.  Please try to stsy positive   irs hard to I know but it really does help if you can. It may be nothing sinister ,but if it is ,they will offer you life saving treatments tailored just for you and you will be well looked after.Believe me if I  can get through it any one can,I was petrified but I was well looked after, and a  year on ibe had my first checks and so far all.us good.. Good luck with everything, do keep us posted on here.x

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about all the different tests that you are going through. I can understand how unsettling it must be waiting to find out more.

If cancer is suspected the doctors need to get as much information as possible to help work out how to treat a particular condition. The doctors are waiting for the results of all the different tests before they talk to you in five days time.

Once they have got the results of all the tests the breast team will discuss your case at a MDT (Multi Disciplinary Team meeting) where all suspected cancer patients are discussed.

We have some information on our website about the different tests that are done which you can see here

Without being involved in your care it is very difficult to tell you more. You may have spoken to a breast care nurse when you went for your appointment. If you have a named nurse you could give them a ring to see if they have more information.

Until you know more try if you can to keep your mind occupied on other things so you try not to think about it  all the time.

You may find it helpful, and if you can because of covid , try and take someone with you to your appointment as often two sets of ears are better then one.

Once you have had your appointment if you have any specific questions or you just want to chat about your appointment then do give one of the helpline nurses a ring. We are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • Thank you so much for the replies.

Jassoscared, thank you for replying, I hope you're doing well now.

Catherine, thank you. No, I only saw a doctor who sent me for a mammogram & ultrasound. When I left hospital I received two phone calls to go to the other appointments, he must have arranged as he didn't mention them at the time.

I know they can't /couldn't say until all results back it's just time is dragging, google is now banned (by husband ) and I've just too much  time on my own to think!

I'm trying to keep busy but I've just had a TKR so still a bit limited.
Thanks, so at least we'll know the plan at the next appointment  and we can go from there xx
