Worried

Hey, I have a very very small pea sized lump on the side of my left testicle. I've had it for around 4 days so far and it just came out of no where. The whole left testicle is painful when touched and the lump it also painful to touch. I'm just scared to what this could be or the possibility of it being something really bad... I've read online that a lump on the testicle can either be a cyst or else cancer... but it said a cyst is located at the top of the testicle and I have a lump on the side. I have no other side effects of cancer tho or having a cyst. I just have the pain and lump. But since it can't be a cyst because where it's located I'm just really worried incase it'd cancer since I'm not seeing any other results as to what it may be... I'm only 16 aswell and I'm really worried.

  • Hi BradelyG and thanks of posting,

Our advice to anyone with a new lump that persists is always to see their GP and get it checked out to be on the safe side. There is no need to panic, lumps don't have to have anything to do with cancer, most don't and especially in teenagers, but a few might, so it is always best to be sure.

From your previous posts I think you are probably a worrier and I suspect you are looking online for information to calm your nerves, but only a doctor can diagnose things like this properly so please do get yourself checked out as this is the best way to get some peace of mind. Also sometimes there can be the possibility of an infection that may need to be treated with antibiotics that only a doctor can prescribe.

I know you have posted before about lumps that you were worried about. Some people develop anxiety over their health and when they first notice something out of the ordinary, they assume the worst and become incredibly anxious and preoccupied when someone else might not worry nearly so much and take it in their stride. I think one of my colleagues mentioned health anxiety before in a previous reply. If you think this is a pattern, do talk it over with your GP as there are things that can help you to manage it that the GP can suggest.

A lot of people use the internet to try and work out what is going on with a new symptom like a lump. It is no substitute for seeing your doctor and can cause a lot of unnecessary worry.  Although some information or replies might reassure you for a while, in someone with anxiety, the effect is usually short lived. So since no one here on Cancer Chat can tell you what is the matter anyway, and we always have to direct you to your own GP to be properly diagnosed, the best thing to do is to just see your GP in the first place and to try and keep an open mind and not to overthink things until you to talk to them.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
